Pink Floyd started off in the mid 60's as a psychedelic rock band. The group's original line up consisted of Syd Barrett (guitar and lead vocals), Roger Waters (bass, background and secondary lead vocals), Richard Wright (keyboards, background and secondary lead vocals), and Nick Mason (drums). But the band's most famous line up is David Gilmour (guitar and lead vocals), Roger Waters (bass and lead vocals), Richard Wright (keyboards and lead vocals), and Nick Mason (drums). Gilmour replaced Syd Barrett in 1968 after he left the band because of his drug problems and mental state. After Barrett's departure, the band gave up on the psychedelic sound of their beginnings and moved towards a progressive rock sound. The band is responsible for 3 albums that are considered to be some of the greatest albums ever madeVery Happyark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall. The Wall is one of my all-time favorite albums. That album really changed my life! And when I went to see Roger Waters live, Nick Mason came out to jam with him during the second half of the show. I also highly recommend their early stuff with Syd Barrett, which is highly under appreciated in North America. And their 1970 release Atom Heart Mother (even though the band is not fond of it) is another great album I recommend.
