I'm hoping I've posted this in the correct place. If not, please forgive me. I haven't been on GSB in a while.

I'm a journalism student and I am writing a feature on the topic of 'Drunkorexia' for my university newspaper. 'Drunkorexia' is a term that was originally coined by the media to describe a condition where people skip meals in order to offset the amount of calories they consume from drinking alcohol, which is a growing phenomenon among students today.

I'd be extremely grateful if you would be able to answer a few short questions for me to help with my research:

1.Do you often worry about the calories you consume while drinking alcohol?
2.Have you ever skipped a meal before a night out? If so, why?
3.If you answered ‘no’ to the above question, have you ever thought about skipping a meal? Why did you decide to eat instead?
4.If you regularly skip meals before a night out, how often do you do this?
5.Do you know of any friends who are doing this? Do you worry about them?

Thank you for your help :]

Hi Mr. Green Wow, journalism! I'm jealous, haha - I work in PR, but I want to get into more solid journalism.

1. Yes, a lot. Sometimes so much so that I have soda water in my wine spritzers instead of lemonade, etc. (That's because of the artificial sweeteners in lemonade too though) but most of the time it doesn't bother me. I eat healthy enough that I can afford to 'splurge' sometimes.
2. I used to skip meals before I went out, but not from a calorie-conscious angle - so I would get drunk quicker. I haven't done that in a very long time though.
3. I wouldn't do it now because I have ME and drinking on an empty stomach seems to be one of the things that makes me quite lethargic. Also, I don't know if I could deal with the hangover now.
4. No, I don't do it unless it's accidental now.
5. I know a lot of friends who do it, but I'm not worried as they have shitty diets anyway and would probably consume a lot of sugary crap instead of sugary alcoholic drinks - it's an equal trade off for them.

I hope this helps, good luck!

1. No, I'm not really a calorie concious person.
2. Yes, mostly everytime I go out. I don't like going out feeling full. :/ It's a thing.
3.
4. Everytime I go out at night mostly.
5. I don't KNOW if any friends do this. But I don't think they mix food with alcohol.

1.Do you often worry about the calories you consume while drinking alcohol?
Nuuuuuuuuuuuupe.
2.Have you ever skipped a meal before a night out? If so, why?
I do most nights out, I feel AMAZINGLY ill if I eat before I go out.
Plus I bloat.
3.If you answered ‘no’ to the above question, have you ever thought about skipping a meal? Why did you decide to eat instead?
N/A
4.If you regularly skip meals before a night out, how often do you do this?
Every time I go out,
twice a week??
5.Do you know of any friends who are doing this? Do you worry about them?
I get more worried when my friends drink too much, I'd be a hypocrite if I started to preach about not eating properly.

1.Do you often worry about the calories you consume while drinking alcohol?
Yes and it doesn't bother me. You only live once.
2.Have you ever skipped a meal before a night out? If so, why?
Yes, because drinking on a full stomach makes me ill. I have to gradually eat while I drink.
3.If you answered ‘no’ to the above question, have you ever thought about skipping a meal? Why did you decide to eat instead?
N/A
4.If you regularly skip meals before a night out, how often do you do this?
I drink heavily once a week and have 2 or 3 pints a day.
5.Do you know of any friends who are doing this? Do you worry about them?
Yes. No.

The thought passes through my mind. i would say i acknowledge the amount of calories im consuming, but actually worry, NO.

2.Have you ever skipped a meal before a night out? If so, why?
No

3.If you answered ‘no’ to the above question, have you ever thought about skipping a meal? Why did you decide to eat instead?
I prefer to eat cause i know the next day i wont feel so hungover. even if its pizza or something, at least theres something in your stomach to absorb the alcohol.

4.If you regularly skip meals before a night out, how often do you do this?
nahh.

5.Do you know of any friends who are doing this? Do you worry about them?
no one i know really does this. purposely.

1. i guess, yes. alcohol has a lot of energy and i'm kind of conscious about that. in addition to that: coke, sprite, lemonde ... whatever you're mixing with: calories again.
2/3. idk maybe. i don't really eat that late anyway, but i don't like drinking on an empty stomach.

i kind of stopped consuming drinks with coke and the like. i hate how sugary it is.

Thank you so much for all your responses! They've been really helpful.
And yes, I will post it on here when I'm done. May not be for a while though because it's also being assessed and they have some plagiarism check thing that checks for matches on the internet :s
