What are your thoughts concerning Christianity?
Do you have any questions concerning it?
Or are you someone who just wants to be prayed for?
This is the place for it.

Please be respectful. Everyone has their own views.

^thats a pretty generalizing statement to make.

I'm a Christian, Roman Catholic to be more precise. I don't go to church all too often, but still occasionally. I let my religion influence my views on things rather than dictate it.

I really don't agree with the Evangelical, fundamentalist Christians of the southern United States, however. I've watched several documentaries on them for my Sociology class, and they seem extremely close minded and yeah, brainwashing to their young kids. (The documentary Jesus Camp is a good example of this)

I really don't like when people just generalize the whole religion as brainwashing and a load of crap etc etc. Not every denomination tries to force their beliefs on everyone, and some denominations are more accepting that others.

I'm curious to know why you equate Christianity and brainwashing.

I'm a Methodist and for a long time I didn't know what that meant, someone told me but I forgot :/
But that wasn't the point.
I have been to other churches and I've expierced them but I've always liked our Methodist church and its views.
I also grew up with a very open-minded mother (or atleast she says) who believes you can't force your own religion onto to someone. They have to find it for themselves.
I may have grown up in a Methodist family but I chose to follow Christianity because I believe it's right in my heart.

lol, sorry,i wasn't really serious. I just think that this has already been discussed in like several religion-related topics.
As for documentaries i've watched... Zeitgeist. And in my opinion it's not close minded at all.

However, i don't see why people keep making topics like this. It's a subject overly discussed and no matter how many arguments one brings, you cannot convince a christians that their god doesn't exist and you can't convince atheists that it does, so there. Everyone has an opinion about this and that's that.

Well I searched for a Christianity thread, and I couldn't find one. I haven't been on GSB since like last summer, so I've missed alot of the popular threads.
I didn't put this up as a debate topic per say, just a discussion topic.
There are a lot of misconceptions concerning Christianity, and I thought maybe I (and other GSBians) could help clear some of them up.
Also, I wasn't aware of the number of GSBians who claim themselves as Christian, and I thought maybe this could be a place for them to discuss their experiences and even exchange prayer requests.
If there's already another thread like this, the mods should feel free to lock this one.

could it ever be that you won because you knew and you are good at writing?

Yeah, unless your writing was doing the "will of god" then I doubt he would have answered that prayer.

I know I'm good at writing, but I've been entering the same academic writing contest for ten years and I've never won (only once about eight years ago).
For the past four years, I've been handing out the same basic style of writing. But this time: I prayed and I wrote about a personal religious experience.
And that can either sink you or make you win, because people don't like to be preached at.
I believe God put the essay I wrote into my head....I didn't have to write it. I could've backed out and {i]not[/i] have listened to God (like I do most of the time). But I didn't and I benefitted, so I thanked Him for the blessing.
Not listening to God, in my experience, has gotten me into a heap of trouble. And I don't mean 'little bouts of bad luck that I make seam into bigger things' I mean complete continuous failures.
I can't expect to you to believe me when I say God talks to me and guides me through life. Hell, my mom is more religious than me and she didn't believe me until she witnessed proof. :/

Personally, anyone who believes in something they haven't researched (like me pre-April 17th 2007) is an idiot (American or otherwise) and if you believe the Jesus story (which isn't even original) then you're believing a lie.

(I got a feeling that was a bad 1st post)

I'm Christian, more specifically Catholic and I'm proud of it. If you don't like it than don't be Christian. I'm not an extremeist who is trying to convert people. Be whatever you want. Be an atheist. I don't care.

Also, I can take a joke. But don't talk shit about my religion.

i think people lean toward a religious view of life Because it is comforting to think that when you die you will go somewhere and have a purpose. Also if you have been wronged, then maybe that person will be punished.

also Some people say you can’t be moral or ethical without religion
i say No, religious people have started wars over it. If they call mass killing good ethics then I don’t know what to think.

I'm not Christian, but I do have the same morals as Christians, such as not having sex before marriage and it's a good moral to have.
