Not to sound like a clueless idiot, but is Obama trying to make it like Canadas health care system?

just saying, i love our health care over here. i know that if something is wrong i can rely on my doctor and the hospital ( if it's an emergency) to give me the help i need.

if someone is like about to die, they wont have to like wait in a line they get helped right away.

... wtf he's trying pretty fucking hard to get health care. i dunno why some americans are so against that idea though, and see it as a bad thing.

This. Obama, in my opinion, is the best thing that could have happened for the states. The thing is is that they aren't ready for him. It just goes so much against traditional America.

We have free healthcare in Canada, too. And yeah, it's not perfect, no system is. We have higher taxes, and if you don't have a family doctor, free clinics usually have very long waits. But you know what? You can get treated for free . The problem I see with American healthcare is that you're just one serious medical problem away from bankruptcy. Why I'm for free healthcare is that my uncle went through 11 months of intensive cancer treatment and he didn't pay a cent. And that's enough for me.

I don't know how anyone can say that Obama is the best thing that happened to this country. But it's your opinion. In my opinion it is the worst thing that would have happened.

I totally agree with you. It's like, if you don't have good enough insurance, you're screwed. I mean, Americans would go to Canada just to get cheaper prescription meds.

I just think it's stupid that the USA, one of the biggest, most powerful countries in the world can't look after its own citizens. There's a reason why it's ranked number 37 for health care.

I remember watching a tv show where Oprah interviewed some women from Denmark (ranked the worlds happiest country) and she said something like "And what your health care system, it's kind of socialist, isn't it ?" and the women kind of looked at eachothet, then one said "well, we don't really think of taking care of our sick and our elderly as socialist, just civilized, really"

I think that he has the right idea but it's not effective in america, because it's so deeply engrained in the culture that any form of interventionist government is bad news, so he's not getting the cooperation.

I don't know why, though. Granted, I don't pay taxes yet, but when I do, I don't have a problem that a part of my own money will help make social services like healthcare available to everyone. I don't see how anyone could have a problem with that, it's compassionate, plain and simple.

woo, go denmark.

we also pay between 40-60% taxes, though (depending on income). i don't think that would ever fly in america.
but yeah, i really don't get why americans are so against health care? I mean, why wouldn't you want to have health care? okay, so you have to pay for others to get treated, but they're paying for you, too.

The Americans that don't want health care are the ones who can afford insurance.

And tbh, Americans throw around words such as communism and socialism for anything that they don't understand or trust. Obama's trying to look after ALL Americans, not just the wealthy ones, so therefore he's a communist~

This is why I wish I lived in Europe. I know that when I do start to pay taxes, I would have no problem with it going towards health care and stuff like that.

In all honesty, America is just used to being selfish. All the people who HAVE insurance and money and CAN have operations and see doctors dont give a shit at all that theres people who dont have insurance or money and cant have the operations they need.

The people who HAVE insurance and money are the ones who dont want heathcare. Usually their best arguments against it is basically about themselves. "But oh its going to cost us so much in taxes" and "Now I have to wait to get surgerys and I could die waiting" Never do they seem to take into consideration that this is going to help alot of people that arnt as fortunate as themselves. Never do they seem to see that theres people who die everyday because they couldnt afford to go to the doctor.

Untill Americans look at it from a less selfish less pesimistic point of view, theres always going to be an issue over how heathcare is effecting themselves rather than how its helping others.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2009
"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

Obama said in his campaign: Yes We Can. He didn't say Yes I Will
So please go easy on him. Some of you didn't go past the hype. And no, I'm not really into the whole system. I'm only speaking from a more logic point ov view.
