I didn't see another thread like this...

Basically, recommend a song that you love/are currently obsessed with/think other people won't have heard, and YouTube/Spotify/Grooveshark link it so others can listen to it. Feel free to recommend an album, just make sure you link at least one song from it.
just because it would be nice to discover new music Cool

Anyway, I'm recommending Young and Insane by The Magnetic Fields, off their lovely EP The House of Tomorrow. I think it's quite a summery love song and I'd like to think that other people may appreciate it...It's here if you have Spotify,- and here if you haven't.
The whole EP is wonderful, actually. Here's a review of it that a friend of mine did, which not only aptly summarises the album but provides an astonishingly insightful analysis of relationships. The whole album is thirteen minutes long, but is basically perfect. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too. Very Happy

Sweet thread idea Cool

I recommend Shoop by Salt N Pepa because it's got some serious girl sass going on. Also, I love the dance moves and exceedingly 80s video.

Also, I know lots of people will have heard this already, but keeping with the theme of ~summer songs~ mentioned in the original post, Eye Know by De La Soul is just totally chill and lovely to listen to in any kind of good weather. Also, it cheers me up and samples Otis Redding whistling, which is cool.

Also, 80s overload comin' with this one, so I promise my next post will be less hip hop oriented in the interest of the majority of site users. The album Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys is one of the tightest and ~creative (to put it really lamely) ones to come out of that era, in my opinion anyway. The Dust Brothers worked a lot on it with the band (and don't get enough recognition for this imo) with sampling and all that and it really is an album chock full of layers and nooks and crannies and corners you delve into deeper every time you listen to it. It really hangs together to a point that most albums rarely reach, and is totally worth listening to from start to finish. But yeah, here's just a video that people might like; it's fitting with the Beastie Boys rep for ~humourous videos~ and all that, and not to mention, dead funky; Hey Ladies.

Ah! Here's one which is quite unlike my last post: Graham Coxon's 'In The Morning'. Another super lovely springtime song. This is an acoustic version, probably my favourite, and I think it sounds great just stripped down like this, but on the album version, which is also great, it's totally laden with almost dreamlike layers and all that, so that's definitely worth a listen too.
I was lucky enough to se this whole album (The Spinning Top) performed from start to finish, with a whole ensemble of musicians and it really was a fantastic experience - one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
The album is a testament to the huge range of ~styles~ Graham Coxon manages to master, and shows his skill as a really super guitarist.

Them That Do Nothing - Field Music. I'm not very good at describing music, I suppose this is just a nice catchy indie pop song, and I'm obsessed with it at the moment.

One For the Road - Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance. My favourite song omgz. You'll know Ronnie from The Small Faces/The Faces, after that I think he became really underrated (I'm not sure, I wasn't alive). Anyway, this is nice. The whole album's nice.

Lol my rubbish descriptions.

^Ah yeah, I totally agree that Ronnie Lane is underrated. I can't say I've listened to a whole lot of his stuff (I think I've got one or two albums hanging around), but I really like How Come.

Somewhat on a similar line (well, small faces -> steve marriott -> humble pie), I'm gonna throw Humble Pie's live cover of Ray Charles' Hallelujah I Love Her So.
The original is great too, but I quite like how this hasn't become an exact copy through the instruments/style/whatevs.

Ahhh we're totally just turning into muso-adbots Cool I dig it.

YES, How Come is good. I only have the one album. They're hard to get on CD, impossible even, so I had to settle for a digital one. I hate buying downloads, I WANT THE REAL THING DAMMIT.

I'm not keen on Humble Pie. I dunno. But I like that song so I'll give their cover a listen.

Yeah I think after Small Faces, Steve Marriott dwindled a bit...
Image
It seems, dwindled in the style stakes too...

You could try archive.org... I just did a quick search, but to no avail with any of Ronnie Lane's albums, but it has all sort of stuff on there which might be of interest like interviews, live footage, old tv shows and films...
(Plus it's all free)

Black Sheep Boy - Tim Hardin
Been trying to teach myself this on guitar, but unlike my 13 year old self, I'm totally lame at guitar now.
Regardless, it's a nice/sad/whatev song. Not particularly like anything I've posted so far on this thread.

And keeping on the theme of lovely but sad songs, here's Blues Run The Game - Jackson C. Frank. Laura Marling has also covered this one... just thought I'd mention her as she's already slopped all over the thread Wink

Oooh, I certainly enjoyed the Tim Hardin one. I've never heard of him, but I shall be checking the hell out of him.

The new Kitty, Daisy & Lewis song, I'm So Sorry. A fun ska type of number.

^ Sounds pretty sweet. It hasn't gotten to the point of being too twee or silly which unfortunately is the case with a lot of artists who go for the ska route nowadays.

I know I never stop with the whole Beastie Boys thing, but I think people should all hear Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win and realise how much of a banging tune it is for the summer etc. Cool
It's got Santigold on it and makes me want to dance. Swish.
I'm no good with the 'if you like _____, then you'll like this' kind of thing, but I'm gonna throw Gorillaz, M.I.A and all those kind of things out there, for some kind of reference point.
Got a good little skanky, dubby beat going for it.

Blister In The Sun - Nouvelle Vague. It's a cover of a Violent Femmes song. Idk if any of you have heard of Nouvelle Vague before, but basically, they do a load of covers, but in a totally not-lame way Cool eg. they don't try to copy the songs exactly. But yeah, check out their other songs too; they've covered people like the clash, the specials, the cure etc. etc.

Also, Vetiver - Everyday.

soppy, happy, summery song, and makes you think "now where have i heard that before?..."
also with a late 80s/early 90s spoofy vid.

Nouvelle Vague are so cool! I'd post a video of them if I could be bothered, but I can't. But I love their cover of The Clash's Guns of Brixton.

Dunno if anyone's looked up Suede on account of my well-publicised love for them, but if you haven't, this is their first single - it's happy, summery and adorably youthful. weird video, but Brett Anderson is a total babe (he'd never normally be my 'type' because of the poseuring, silly hair and earring, but for whatever reason I loooove him).
fun fact: this song was released in the week I was born Cool

I WILL CONVERT EVERYONE TO SUEDE ONE DAY

Psycho My favourite song ever!! They're playing their first three albums live later this month over three days and I desperately wanted the three day ticket, but my second exam is the day of the second gig (-weeps-)...

have some Elastica! (out of sync vid, but epic song)
