yeah i see what you mean

making it out like it's a massive massive thing

people are trying to get equal rights for disabled people, but to be fair, it's never gonna happen if people, i.e, the media keep making a massive ordeal out of two disabled people getting married.

making it out as though it's something extremely out of the ordinary & extreme or whatever.

anyone should be allowed to marry if they love eachother.
but in this case i can see why theyre making a huge deal out of it. Downsyndrome is a genetic disease so if 2 people who have it have kids in theory there could be an increased chance of the kid having it.

actually it has nothing to do with if there both carrying the downsyndrome gene as downsyndrome isn't neccessary genetic, so though there is a 2/4 chance of there children having downsyndrome it can effect anybody regardless of family history.

But the problem is that downsyndrome is a devistating learning difficulty, and the idea of marriage sends off alarm bells because people suffering from that particular difficulty might not know what the idea of marriage would entail, or in fact what love means, that sounds harsh but it's pretty truthful. I'm for equal rights but when it is a mental disorder it is up to the carers to make sure that what they do in there personal life is for their best interest.

All the best to them, but i hope they recieved marriage counselling beforehand so that they know exactly what a marriage entails.

it's being a massive thing and gaining media attention isn't neccessarily a bad thing, because it highlights not only the progress of disabled people in the public sphere, but also the difficulty's in this case that downsyndrome can bring.

But the fact that they have downsyndrome does interfere with their ability to understand the concept of Marriage. It isnt so much about the fact that they both have a mental disorder and it spreading, people are concered for them and they choices they make.

yeah i understand that aswell, but if they can live together cook for each other, look after themselves, shouldnt they be allowed to? and if they are happy and can understand what they're going into to (because we all know that marrage is a big thing) they shoudl be allowed to.

Thats the thing, they have a mental disorder than can prevent them from doing any of those things, some more severly than others, but it isnt something that should just be brushed off, it needs attention.

I believe that they should be able to get married. They're people too. They just learn at a slower rate than us.

It's not that, some things they can't learn, they are prevented from learning them by this handicap. All of the concern is with good cause.

yeah sure it needs attention which is why they should just get treated like you or me, like people we are.

Could someone find an article on this or something? I'd like to read more about it.

I'm not too fond of Downsydrome. I don't know much about it. A couple kids at my school have it. And they seem normal enough to me.
I don't see why two people with downsydrome can't get married. As long as they know what they're doing.
