This is a film based on the bok by Christopher Paolini, and I for one cant wait to see it i have the read the books 5 times and sitting here with baited breath for the film release date. here is a bit about the film and books.

Eragon
Christopher Paolini
When Eragon finds a polished stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands...

here is a book review i found:

Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)
by Christopher Paolini

Hardcover: 528 pages
Publisher: Knopf; (August 26, 2003)
ISBN: 0375826688
Reading level: Young Adult

Christopher Paolini began writing Eragon when he was just 15 years old. Christopher's love of science fiction and fantasy shines through and will encourage young fantasy readers to pick up this hefty sized book.

The character of the book, Eragon, is a young farm boy, who finds a mysterious blue stone, in a field, while out hunting. He attempts to trade it for food for his family, without success. He had no idea the mysterious stone would hatch into a sapphire-blue dragon.

Eragon decides to secretly care for and raise the dragon. After his father is killed by evil forces known as the Ra'zac, he learns that he is the last of the Dragon Riders and the dragon egg was meant to find him.

In a race to hunt down those who killed his father he realizes his destiny is much larger then he knows, an entire Empire may be relying on him.

Eragon and his dragon Saphira must set out to find their roles in this Empire. They encounter many humans, dwarves, elves and nasty Urgals along their dangerous travels. It is a whole new world Eragon must face filled with ancient languages, magical powers, perilous situations and sudden battles.

Like many books of this genre, there are many names, places and ancient languages which may prove difficult to decipher at first. Maps and glossaries are provided to help sort things out. Despite this, the book is easy for young readers to grasp and pages will be flying fast.

here is a cast list:

Jeremy Irons

Edward Speleers

Djimon Hounsou

John Malkovich

Robert Carlyle

Sienna Guillory

Garrett Hedlund

Alun Armstrong

Christopher Egan

Joss Stone

Gary Lewis

Nils Allen Stewart

Joss Stone

The only thing i can see that would spoil the film for me is Joss Stone. I have no doubts at all that she can sing but act i would have to see and judge for myself.

There was a topic for this, including the books. I think... I pictured brom more old-manish though. I pictured Arya as Liv Tyler from LOTR also.

I can't believe the author was so young. Anyway, never read the books, might watch the film.

I read Eragon and I read Eldest and I'm really dissapointed. I mean, when you read Eragon, it sounds a little like all the great sagas. Star Wars and Dragon Riders and all those. But by Eldest, it's just...obvious...and I can't stand that. I might see the movie, but I know I won't enjoy it as much as I could.

i finally went to see the film and may i say WHAT A LET DOWN!!!! it missed all sorts of very important things out of the book that was important to the film, its like when eragon left with brom it was winter in the film its summer, also they are travelling for ages until he meets anyone,
also his mum isnt mentioned and that is very important because it goes on to say why he is called eragon, and also his cousion doesnt go of to fight in the army he goes of to be a miller and the when he finds out about his dad he comes back with an army and blames eragon for everything, come on if they're going to make a film from a book at least do it with the important parts of it still there.

I know how you feel. I was disappointed the whole entire movie. I expected more epicness, but thats what you get when you have movie to book transitions. And the actor for Eragon pissed me off too.

My friend wants to see it but I'm refusing to go. I hate seeing books I like being slathered on screen, plus I don't want someone elses version of the story stuck in my head or else it'll just confuse me when I read the 3rd book.
