I give respect to those who earn it.
Someone you're meeting for the first time hasn't had time to show you any respect. Because they haven't earned your respect, is it suitable to be rude to them?

Is it ever suitable to be disrespectful to someone? I don't understand what that accomplishes. Like you yelling at your mother, did being loud with her help anything? Doesn't sound like it to me. Why not be the bigger person and try and handle things calmly? That would be so much more productive. There is never a need to be disrespectful.
Are you fucking kidding me? I have always tried to be the bigger person when it comes to me and my mom getting into fights like that, not to be the winner of it or anything, cause that would be utterly pointless. At first when she would yell at I would burst into tears crying, and she would continue to yell at me infront of people, then I learned to calm myself and try and talk to her calmy in private and she would still continue to hurt me. What would you suggest I do when I get pushed to my limit? You know people have limits and sometimes they break, snap or whatever. Like I also stated in my post, I thought I over reacted, which clearly I did. Tell me that has nothing to do with me not wanting to give respect to other people before I meet them. Ive kinda been raised to be the timid kind, the push-over, IN EVERYTHING. And as much as I try and over come that, I keep getting dirt kicked in my face. I know people desevre respect, and your right people should never have to resort to being disrespectful. But it is harder for some than others. Im still trying, okay? And I do show respect to people I dont know :] Even more so than to people I do know. Im just tired of always being the disrespected....sorry for trying to put up a tough front.

Respect is such a difficult thing, 'cause When you don't agree, sometimes you can't accept other people way of thinking, or other people behavior. I agree with the author saying it would be nicer if everyone could be like that. It would be REally Great, But well, it is very difficult to make people be respectful.
I really respect people, but when they mess up with things I believe, like, or people I Love, then I can't be respectful and a feeling of anger develops inside of me. I think we can't be respectful all the time.
We end up saying, If other people doesn't respect, why should I do it? , the same question that makes us think about "Freedom": If They Can, Why Can't I? .
But In the end, that's not real freedom, that's just equality, and't that's not the same.

my opinion on respect is not making rude comments about someone else's favorite band or musical genre. i focus respect more towards opinions...but then again, what do I know? i'm only 15

A lot of people don't show respect.
If they did there wouldn't be all the wars, pollution, Global Warming.
But respect can start on a smaller base.
If I'm meeting somebody for the first time, I'll show them some respect. I'll be civil.
But as soon as they're rude to me or whatever, my respect for them will drop.
Respect is an easy thing to gain but also an easy thing to lose.
