xSheenaxRamonex Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: - Gender: - Posts: 8 | I dunno what to say..Sid was one of the worst bassists ever...he was just a pistol for sex appeal,he worshipped Dee Dee Ramone (which you can tell is you have studied the lives of both) and he was very weak in hard situations..Although, Sid was just a young guy trying to find his Niche, doing so was part of what led him to herion and eventually his death. though, I must say, even know Sid wasnt all that talented he was a rebel..and helped define punk rock music (even though, somehow, not musically) THE REAL SEX PISTOL WAS MR. JOHNNY ROTTEN.. Most people who would imagine Johnny Rotten/John Lydon's mark on punk rock would think of vomiting, safety pins, bondage pants and anarchy..most people to think of the music would imagine it as nothing musical at all, just how Lydon put it infact, as an 'idea'..this idea being a loud, 3 chord, horribly played rendition of rocknroll...though, put into this idea (the sex pistols) was much of John's heart... Hearing the well-known phrase "No Future" would probobly come off as pecemistic to alot of people..but really all Rotten meant was there is "No Future"..unless...we make one for ourselves..and that alone helped TRUELLY DEFINE the spirit of punk rock. THOSE THINGS SAID..I CAN CONCLUDE..WITH..MY READ QUESTION... Why did/does Sid get so much attention? ( besides the fact that he may or may not have murdered his wife and all that BS) He wasnt the heart and soul behind the operation..(he was the sex appeal and the tortured soul).. WHO ELSE AGREES THAT IT IS COMPLETELY REDICULOUS THAT SID IS GETTING MOST OF THE RECOGNITION JOHN DESERVES? |

The Pistols never defined punk rock music, but merely punk, the attitude, style, art, shock appeal, sex appeal, etc. Other bands excelled punk rock musically such as The Clash, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, 999, Sham 69 (notorious for bring out the yob appeal from punk). Though I give credit to the Pistols' lyrics. |
Vicious79 Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie Age: 36 Gender: Female Posts: 16 | The Pistols defined punk music because they were the first who were kicking arses in puplic they criticised the establisment which was never done before in that way. The whole Sex Pistols thing was ingenious invention of Malcolm McLaren. None of them was a great musician and Johnny wasn´t a great singer, they sounded disgusting live but who cares no one who went to see the Pistols wanted to hear perfectly played music. Disharmony and Johnnys extraordinary voice became their trademarks and these trademarks made them to such an amaizing band. Sid got that much attetion because (in McLarens opinion) he was the personification of punk and instead of Johnn he was good looking he had this really cute angel face which the girls like and what we shouldn´t forget he invented the pogo. he wasn´t married to Nancy !!! !!SID VICIOUS IS INNOCENT!! |
Rotten Idiot Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 671 | I personally feel that Sid gets all the attention because he was, for lack of a better phrase, a perfect disaster. John was a lot more subtle; there would be a snide comment here, a bit of sarcasm there, and he never really put himself out there. Sid, on the other hand, was almost like a bomb waiting to go off at any moment, and that sort of fascinated people. That's the way I see it, anyhow. *shrugs* |

Hitchcock Starlet Addict Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 12622 | Johnny was the voice, and Sid was the look of Sex Pistols. Yeah,Sid was a true Anti-talent for playing bass, but he defined the look of punk in a way. |
