fave pistol....
hmmm V.hard
John Lydon id say......mainly beacuase my fave part of music is lyrics and he revolutionised what music and lyrics are about today (while the ramones revolutioised the style of music, he brought controversial lyrics to life).
Though the other members were brilliant, considering none of them could play when they started; and as for sid well he couldnt play even when they ended really Laughing
Actually i have a Sid Vicious Figurine and im buying a Johnny Rotten one soon Very Happy

I've only found those action figures for $25, and I was pissed. How much do you get them for? I was gonna get a Johnny one, but then I saw the price and thought "fuck that".

I've seen them in the Virgin Megastore in Times Square (NY). I don't really know other than that...depends on where you live. I'm sure you could find them online (EBAY = LOVE)

Vicious.:

Yeah. I agree with that.
But strangely enough, Sid is the only one anyone at my school has heard of.
[Their general opinion of him is "oh my god, what a disgusting person".]

But anyway.
Is it just me that think that the Pistols and the Ramones don't really sound that much like each other anyway?

They didnt sound similar at all.
Many different things probably contributed to this. the Ramones started in america at a brilliant litle music place CBGBs OMFUG, before the Sex Pistols, and their style was new to everone then, fast songs that blurted out the voice of the now generation, i dont care.
the Sex Pistols were (of course) from the UK, and started in a store called Sex, the local place for youth full of angust hung around and were picked up by the infamous malcom mclaren, who didnt care about anythign except explotation in order to get money. hence the reason for the controversial lyrics Johnny wrote and of course the rise and fall of Sid Vicious). though i do note the John Lydon is quite politicallly aware and intelligent especially considering his up bringing.
these different environment and factors taken into account, people still managed to class The Ramones and Sex Pistols in the same genre, im guesing because of theyre attitude, the time they emerged and that at that point in time they didnt really have a genre to describe both seprately. but when you think about it, what is punk? is it the Ramones style of music, or is the Johnnys lyrics, is it iggy pop's behavoiur or green day's lifestyle?
(real) Punk seems to be the music that no one can class, but is unique and different, even within the genre itself.

I think I might write my college essay on how the Pistols have influenced me. It'd be different anyway, since they're so notorious. Especially since most likely old people will be reading my essay. It'd be a way for me to stand out and show who I am, anyway. I don't know.

Oh, that would be so cool. When I wrote a review of Hell W10, I got all philosophical about Joe and his idea and my teacher actually liked it. You should do it, its a really good idea since everyone will probably put someone serious that they know the teacher will like.

This month in Rolling Stone there is a great article on the Pistols, honoring the 30th anniversary of Nevermind The Bollocks. Interviews with John Lydon and Steve Jones. It's quite a long article and it's well worth getting. I would scan it for you sods, but I haven't got a scanner. Wink

The Ramones rocked faster. They were more rock 'n' roll. Period. However, the Pistols were more 'punk' in the modern sense of the word. The Ramones being a major influence in the Pistols' songs were also called 'punk' because they did have the look and 'punks' such as the Sex Pistols advertised The Ramones through talking about them and wearing their shirts.

There's also the New York Dolls, which although like the Ramones are after called 'punk', they definately are more into the 'glam rock' spirit hence the clothing. But Malcolm McLaren, after returning from touring with the Dolls in America during their fall out months, got the beginning Pistols members into the Dolls.

Infact, Malcolm McLaren and Bernie Rhodes pretty much made up the group. The Sex Pistols were the most fabricated rock group in the history of rock. No wonder they were so sucessful.

You can go see them now that they've reformed, contrary to previous statements most of which were made by John Lydon who swore on his grave never to have a reunion. Rolling Eyes
