Mass Suicides

perhaps it goes so unoticed, because people think, "hey say godbye to bad rubbish"

i think though that people should look into it more and find out why they are doing it, and what is the power some people have over them to make them do it?

After the cult killings in Buhunga in southwest Uganda, many members of the local government were arrested because they ignored the warnings the cult members gave before the suicides happened. Yeah, seems hard to ignore, I'm sure the dead children all agree.

People ignore warning signs all the time, usually thinking that the person won't have the balls to actually kill themselves.

Recently in the UK news there has been (not tonnes where I'm from but still) a fair bit of stuff about a weird, all most cult of suicides...

Personally I think the town needs to look at the support system they have/had in place and I think its pretty important to see where it went wrong and make sure other situations can be improved.

i don't really believe in brainwashing...everyone has a little bit of common sense. those people had to realize what they were doing when they killed themselves. saying they were brainwashed is making them look like a victim but they caused their own death. same with the manson case...charles manson didn't brainwash anyone...in fact, what kind of person could take a person like manson seriously? but they did, and it isn't because he had some brainwashing power. people do crazy things. some people want attention, some people need something to be devoted to, some people really need something to believe in.

maybe people who join cults really needed something to hold onto, they needed some beliefs and values. if you find something you think is right that you can believe in and feel fulfilled, i think that is your right to follow it. if it happens to be a cult that ends in mass suicide, thats what you chose. i don't feel sorry for the people that do this and i don't blame them for being stupid. because they weren't. they were doing what they thought was right. i guarentee you if the pope made an announcement that Catholics should kill themselves in order to get to heaven because armegedon is now, many, many, many people would die. is it wrong? i don't think so. if you love something that much and feel it is right...its your duty to follow your heart. i think its the same thing for people who say they would die for their husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend or other family person. i know i would die for my boyfriend. i love him that much. i'm sure these people felt the same way about their cult. who are we to tell them they can't love something and do what they think is necessary? they might have to pay for their actions later like the people who followed charles manson, but i am sure many of those people to this day feel like they did the right thing.

They let themselves get so absorbed in cult life that they don't realize it's gotten out of control. They don't think about consequences, they just follow the crowd.

Oh I heard about this. Yeah, in Wales especially, many young adolescents have hanged themselves. Apparently all of them had an account on some social networking site and there seems to be some kind of death pact kinda thing. Very, absurd, if you ask me.

I think some people deserve more credit. Pleanty do seem to follow the crowd, but not everyone is an idiot. Some people may realise that life if fundamentally absurd and that there is no ultimate truth, no pivotal moment to reach in life. Those are some of the smartest, bravest people in the world. The thing is, it's not the consequences, they are perfectly aware of them, it's the endless amount of freedom which can either seem overwhelming, and possibly frightenning, or it can free you. I think that is what ultimately causes people to join or reject mass suicides. The more intellegent population anyway.
