No, I think you can only become a victim to something on the net if you're stupid enough to give out personal information to someone you don't know. Parents need to do a better job of making sure their 13 yrs old know that

getting into trouble over the net, and getting into things that aren't safe come from a lack of knowledge, and immaturity...

haha i'm currently talking to some weirdo on facebook right now from the middle east

'Tell Me about Your family ?' - he just posted that lol
nooo thank you buddy, too much info.

the internet really isn't that bad. my mom and dad & grandparents always used to go on about how i shouldn't have myspace, facebook, myyearbook, gsb at one point lol & other things but now i think they've accepted that i'm smart enough not to post stuff like my social security number on the internet. its not that bad you just have to be careful what you post.

haha, funny story. i got in trouble with the law once for looking up loads of information about bombs & anthrax & all this crap. i was a curious 11 year old. needless to say, people showed up my house demanding to know what we're doing. always know that you are ALWAYS watched on the internet by the government. there is no real 'privacy' thats why you have to be careful with what you're doing.

Of course you're going to be flagged if you're looking up bombs and anthrax, that doesn't mean everyone is constantly monitored online. The Spooks have better things to do than keep tabs on people who are googling Justin Beiber's Twitter or whatever.

It all depends. Of course, don't give out personal crap, but it really doesn't matter TOO much on who ur talking to, it does but barely. Just talking won't really 'cause anything. -shrugs-

I think that people should be very careful who they talk to, as we all know we haven't got the foggyist clue who is on the other end of that mouse. Which also means be careful of WHAT youput online, especially photographs.

That is all! Smile

I think people should be very careful when talking to people and don't give out too many details about yourself and where you live, etc. Until you know the person well and can trust them. For example, I've talked to people on GSB enough to trust them because I know they're trustworthy people but I wouldn't talk to some random guy adding me on MSN or Facebook wanting to know personal details immediately.

I've been in relationships that worked out in the past with people I'd never met before and I can trust a lot of people online with my whole life. I love the fact that they can talk to me about anything too, but I'll feel horrible knowing I can't be there to help them if something's wrong. I've been in video calls with my friends, where we can both see eachother and can both speak to eachother so nobody's hiding anything. For example, it would be dodgy if I went on webcam by myself to someone saying they were my age when they might be a 80 year old murderer/pedo/whatever.

yeah, i was 11 dumb and curious. and no, i don't mean in the literal sense that someone is always watching you, let me rephrase that. there is never privacy. passwords and 'delete history' mean nothing because if an official goes through your computer, they can find everything.

I think that talking on the internet is okay, as long as you don't give out certain information. On FaceBook, you have to be extra careful because if you post where you're going or what you're doing, because not only your friends and relatives can see, but their friends can see. It happened to one of my mom's relatives and she came home to things being stolen.

I don't think it's dangerous to talk to people online.
I think you can make it dangerous by what you say, like giving out certain information to people you haven't really gotten to know, but overall it's safe enough.

I met my gf online. And now we've been dating for 2 years and 3 months. Smile

Bottom line is, if you're going to give out personal information, make sure the person you're talking to is who they say they are. Webcam helps a lot with this.

It can be dangerous but I think most people are normal and nice. It's just those few that make it seem so bad. Just be careful.

She is not very developted.

Sense she gives it out to text these people.

That's the only thing I really don't like about talking to people online. People give out their phone number to every person they think are friends (no offense). I've made that mistake once, but, the person was really a friend and who she said she was. That's another thing, people lie about who they are sometimes. Someone could say they are a 14 year old girl, but be like a 37 year old perv. I say talking online is a little safe, as long as you know what you're doing. Don't give out personal stuff like address or email or phone number. People can get so much from just them little things.

There was this thing at my school we did for the whole day, only talking about "Cyber Bullying" and stuff like that. They told us about someone's very personal stuff that they got from just her full name shown on her Myspace. And she even had friends she didn't even know. Honestly, I got a little uncomfortable about the presentation about all that and deleted all my really personal stuff on Myspace and all the people I didn't know. All that people need to know on there is my first name and my age. Nothing else is important. My full name is on there, but it's all private. Everything on Myspace and Facebook is private so only my friends and family can see it.

I think if you display they exact city you live in and give your address and phone number, then that's stupid because someone could find out where you live from that information. I think talking on GSB is safe, well for the most part anyway. Most of us have been talking for years and nothing has happened yet Laughing A lot of random chat sites though I wouldn't trust because mostly people are there to find someone to have sex with. Anyway, it really depends on the situation and what website you're on.
