Ok i know this might upset a few of you but that isnt my intention, obviously.

i personally feel that GD have gone down hill at astonishing speed since the release of insomniac. I'm talking album wise. I've seen them live twice in 2005 and i was not dissapointed. They were a great live act and it was a memorable night.

But seriously. when i heard nimrod i couldnt believe how shit (in my opinion) it was. it was mostly bubblegum punk with a slight edge. like simple plan on their period.

I also dont understand the GD fans. i see myself as one as i am extremely enthusiastic about their first 4 albums. absolutely classic works of art. But i feel im the oldest one here (20) have GD officially turned into a product for children?

Please discuss in a sensible manner. i have long out grown internet arguments.

As what everyone is saying, they matured. Obviously, if they kept making Dookie or Insomniac-era music, then they would've just gotten boring and cliched. They wrote those albums/songs about what they knew and felt at the time, and when you get married/have kids/start worrying about bills, or whatever, your opinions and thoughts about life are going to change. They can't be angry 22 year olds talking about masturbation and smoking pot for the rest of their lives.

theres more to a band than what the members look like.

We're pretty much all here because we like the bands music. If you haven't noticed, the n00bs that come here and say "omfgz billy jo iz so hawt i wanna mary himz" aren't really here for long O_O

people also seem to forget that you can love a band for their music and be attracted to the members. We all have our fan teenie moments but that doesn't necessarily mean we're shallow.

i don't think there is anything wrong with someone obsessing about a band. i mean everyone has obsessed about a band/artist at some point. now if the person only likes a band for what a member looks like that's wrong, but i don't think most people my age do that. that's more like younger kids.

I have been obsessed with 3 bands, but I liked the band's music before I thought they were hot. I become obsessed with their music then I was like, "They are so hot!" It's always has been that way for me and always will be. I will never like a band just for their looks. I liked JAE's bass playing and solo music before I thought he was good looking. Then I became obsessed and I was "in love" with him. But with Green Day, looking back on my obsession I don't see why I ever liked Tre. Dno He isn't that good looking. None of them are tbh. Shifty I love them for their music. That is the number reason and it always will be for any band.

yeah i mean i'd say i'm obsessed with green day, but it was the song i heard that got me into their music not their looks. i thought they were old Laughing

Honestly, I really like Green Day's new work. 21st Century Breakdown, I think that album is great. American Idiot, it's probably the best to me, cause that's what got me hooked on Green Day. I never really heard of them before American Idiot. I used to only own American Idiot, and I listened to that entire CD, everyday for about a month. then I got Warning, Nimrod, and Shenanigans. Shenanigans is probably my least favorite. I like Warning and Nimrod quite a lot. but i am way off topic now. what the hell. So i guess I am gonna say that I like Warning, ?Nimrod, American Idiot, and 21CB better than Kerplunk, 1,039 /Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, and Insomniac. But Dookie just kicks ass.

woah i totally missed that one
wtf... i don't see how age has to do with anything is someone superior to me because they are older? to be honest i don't think so.

I agree. They have children and yeah, they do act more fatherly now, but they are fathers. All three of them have children and if you don't have a child you really wouldn't understand. I've basically raised my nephew and my views on life have definitely changed since the day he was born.

Album wise, they've been going FOR YEARS. Of course a band will begin falling and rising at various points throughout their entire career. 1039 smoothed was amazing and so is 21st Century Breakdown. Their style has changed, but everyones' style changes as do a person's taste in music. I definitely don't like the Backstreet Boys anymore (even though I've liked Green Day since the age of 3).

Kerplunk was great, Dookie was great, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, Shenanigans, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown were/are all great. I've heard a lot of people say that Dookie was the beginning of their collapse. And to me, a lot of people don't realize that people change; their thoughts, style, everything. (I'm a fan of 1039smoothed to be completely honest, but I love all their stuff.)

( Shocked shit, I wrote a lot. I also don't like the fact that a lot of teens like Green Day only because Billie Joe is "hot"... I saw a lot of "Billy Jo is HOT!" on the screen in Nashville when we were allowed to text to it.. I sent one saying "It's Billie Joe, not Billy Jo damn it!" Sorry for offtopicness)

I'm 20 too and chances are your mommy was listening to Dookie when you were 5, just like mine was. We started listening to American Idiot at 15 and might have grown up knowing Good Riddance and Minority just 'cause we heard them on the radio. Laughing

It's okay if Green Day has younger fans, I just wish they would go to hell at concerts. The young ones really have no respect for others. Green Day should control their fans more.

We all have things we love and hate about Green Day. I feel 21st Century Breakdown is more political jargan just like Global Warming and is pretty much more American Idiot, which Green Day saw worked for them so decided to repeat. My two cents.

But don't get me wrong, I love all their albums.

What do you mean when you say that the younger ones have no respect? Just curious?
I've had some experience with the younger ones. I mean i respect every aspect of them (i'm 17), but Sometimes there are those 13 year olds who wear My Chemical Romance shirts to the concerts and they push all the way to the front because they think they're going to be able to make out with billie's hand but they end up crying because they're squished to death. I've seen it happen. It annoys me. I mean i would say i act like a teenie bopper sometimes, but i know when to not be a tool.

i may be new to the site but im not like "liek OHEMGEEZ billy jo is my sexy marraige sox "

I'm here because i love green day and their music.

personally.....i love all their albums , Kerplunk is my fav. -but thats just because it came into my life at a certain time and it just made everything make sense- but ALL of their albums are great.....

if you notice...their sound changes a bit as they mature....billie joe even said that the music is going to change because he doesnt want to be "a bitter old fart"

its the same band, the same quirky, crazy East Bay band, but they've matured....and you can like it or not....they cant be hating their lives and angsty all the time when all of them have kids

uhhh i disagree
ive seen people who are 30 on here... you are not the oldest.
and people change.... he had kids and grew up. if he kept singing about senseless crap (btw im not saying it sucked Dookie is my fav album) people wouldnt respect them that much. believe me they wouldnt.
i like that they changed and its the mature thing to do. you see these 30-40 year old singers who have no wife or kids... because they never grew up.
...my opinion...
but yeah
im not trying to start shit
i just wanna give my opinion

Does it really matter what age you are? Just as long as you like the music. I know I'm 12 and you probably think i'm just saying this because of my age but many people will also agree with me.
If i was 20 i would much rather prefer the younger generation to listen to this kind of music and not that crappy, pop, autotuned, shit that all the other people my age are now listening to
