Melbourne Telstra Dome, Melbourne, Australia, December 16th, 2005

I'm gonna tell you all about the Green Day concert, from the eyes of moi, Rae, and my sister, Em, who was there also....

So, Saturday, I'm in Melb, and it's like 4:30. Em and I took the tram down to The Dome aka Telstra Dome. We got there a bit late, 'cause the doors were meant to open at 4:30, we got there like, 4:40. A whole ten mins late, made a difference too...

There was a gigantic line more than half way round the dome, and we had to get on at the end. After a few mishaps, including getting on the wrong tram, and in the wrong line, we were in the que for GREEN DAY!!!

And two hours later, we were still in it...

The lines for merchandise were real long, and we couldn't be stuffed going into another line, so we just skipped that part and we're gonna buy stuff off the Net.
6:30 and we get to the front of the line. We didn't have any bags, so they didn't have to get checked, we just beeped out tickets, and walked in. Not even any pat downs like they'd said there WOULD be... Then I went screaming onto the oval, literally screaming, little dudes!!! Em was like, dude! Take a chill pill. But I was way too hyper for a chill pill!

There was the stage, and then the idiot zone, and then a barrier, and then the general admission mosh pit, which for the sake of things, I'll just call moshy. Hmm, good name for my guitar...

So Em and I joined in at the back of moshy in front of the sound desk. We tried pushing in a bit, but dude it was... Thick? Dense? Dunno what word to use...
Eventually with all the people constantly joining, we got to be in the middle of it, and we got these awesome girls behind us, who, 'cause we were way short, stuck up for us and told people to stop pushing the 'little girls'. I didn't care. Couldn't see the stage very clearly, but we could see the side screens pretty good.
We waited for a while, bout 20 mins.

6:50 abouts, My Chemical Romance came on stage, amid lots of screaming!! It was way hot in moshy and there were LOTS of people. Very squishy. They were pretty good, I liked them, not much moshing though, I wanted to save my energy for GREEN DAY. They played for about 1/2 an hour, pretty good songs, then there was like, a ten minute break.

7:35 roundish, Jimmy Eat World came on. I didn't like them as much. They didn't really interact with the crowd... And I only recognized like, 2 of their songs, which was kinda disappointing.

By the time they ended I was tired, and hot, and cramped, and wet. You see, people were randomly throwing water over the crowd from inside moshy. Thankfully there was only water, so no beer or the likes was thrown. At one point we were so hot, inbetween Jimmy Eat World and GREEN DAY, we started chanting, water, water!! and some clever people started chanting vodka, vodka, but thankfully, we only got water.

We waited for ages after Jimmy Eat World, and then there was cheering, and a pink bunny was on stage. Lol. It was doing the YMCA and the song was playing. We were all doing the actions, and looking back I'm like, how the heck did we move our arms??

8:45 - then, awesomeness of awesomeness... The roof opened!! (Lol, you all thought I was gonna say GREEN DAY!! But I didn't he he.) Nah, the roof opened and there was a cool breeze and we were all screaming and like! Yeah!! We love the roof openers so much!!!

And then, amazingness of amazingness... GREEN DAY came on stage!!! (You weren't expecting that were you?? Or perhaps you were considering I've written this much and only just gotten to GREEN DAY...)

Anywho, they were hot, and awesome, and playing American Idiot. The song.
Well, understandably, we were off our faces screaming in moshy. We started jumping, and I accidentally head butted the nice chick behind us, but, being so nice, she only wanted to know if I was hurt.... But I wasn't.
They started playing through the album. They were so amazing. Some bands aren't as good live, but they were better! They interacted with the crowd, and randomly yelled out, MELBOURNE!!!!

Apparently lots of people pronounce it wrong. I've never noticed, but apparently they do... GREEN DAY didn't. They were going through the album, in the same order as the DVD and I was hoping that they wouldn't just do the same songs... But then they got to Saint Jimmy, and they did Give me Novacaine, which I love! So I was happy. Well, here's the songs they played:

American Idiot
Jesus of Suburbia
Holiday
We Are the Waiting
St Jimmy
Give Me Novacaine
Longview
Hitchin' A Ride
Brain Stew
Jaded
Knowledge
Basket Case
She
King For A Day/Shout
Wake Me Up When September Comes
Minority
I Fought The Law
Boulevard of Broken Dreams
We Are The Champions
Homecoming
Good Riddance (Time Of My Life)

All their songs were amazing... Awesome! And they did the shouting, call back thing. So groovy. I was screaming and singing along to every song. I think I sang the wrong words once or twice, lol. Afterwards I had such a croaky sore throat, but the next day it was fine, so I think that I can officially never lose my voice, if it was fine after all I did that night.... Bummer!

Halfway through Knowledge, they announced they wanted to make a band! They called for anyone who played drums, and they got this guy on stage, and then they wanted a bass player, I jumped, but I was way too far back. They got this other girl up, and they're like, are you sure you can play? And she could. She was good. Then they wanted a guitarist. They asked one of the guys how long he'd been playing and he's like, 4 months. We all laughed at him, but Billie's like, are you sure you can play dude, 'cause if u can't, I'm gonna kill you!! And he swore he could, so he got up and he wasn't half bad. When they'd all been told what to play, they sounded pretty good! It was the easiest song they had, only 3 chords, but they still sounded pretty good.

Billie was good as with the crowd, he sure knows how to get us involved!! Lol.
He was very good with the whole Aussie thing too. He did a few aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi! routines, which were fun, and he came out wearing an aussie flag, and drinking a VB. And in Holiday, when he says, the representative of California has the floor, he said Australia. Lol. Our country!!

Um.... Oh yeah!! He got the lead guy from The Living End up, Chris Cheney, and he played along for I Fought The Law, a cover of an old song.
During one of the songs, and then later on, they blew these little bits of paper out of these things on the side of the dome, and all these green and red and white paper was falling down everywhere, some had little heart grenades on them and others had GREEN DAY written on them. I got heaps and put 'em in my pockets.

They the stage went black and u couldn't see them. We were all screaming for more, and chanting GREEN DAY, and then they came back, thank goodness. Billie had changed into a red shirt and they sang 3 more songs. I loved We Are the Champions so much, everyone was just screaming, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, NO TIME FOR LOSERS, COS WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!

Ah, sweet memories...

All this time we were in moshy gettin' killed! It was so jam packed that sometimes I was squished between the person in front and behind me. Mostly I had a tiny bit of room, but it was so packed that when we moshed heaps, Em and I held hands, just in case the crowd swept us apart.

At the end, we were all screaming, and we were so sad that it was over. Em and I didn't wanna leave just yet, so we went and stood out of the way of all the people. Oh, did I mention that there were 37,000 people there? No? Oh, well there were. We looked at where we were standing, and it was only like, 2 or 3 rows back from the moshy barrier!! We were almost as close as we could get with our tickets!! Pretty awesome! Next time we're gonna go in the idiot zone and line up from 9 in the morning, so we can have the best spot ever!! Sweet!

11:15 we went home. It was such an anti climax 'cause it was so darn fun!!
Best. Night. Ever!
