Missing Madeleine McCann?
We all know about the missing child. She was in her hotel room with her two younger siblings when her parents were out. She was 'abducted' and hasn't been seen since.
Look, I know it is a shame about the poor young girl's gone missing but it's time we looked a bit closer at the media's sordid frenzy over her.
It has been well over three weeks since the girl has disappeared. There has been little information on her whereabouts, apart from one grainy piece of footage in a petrol station of "an uncooperative child in pyjamas" That's it. There has been rumours that she is as far as Eastern Europe and Morocco.
This is not the first time that a child who was abroad was went missing, nor it will be the last. some reappear, some do not. There are thousands of children who go missing all over the world every day and most never come back, either dead or alive. Think about Darfur, children are regularly abducted to become child soldiers in the rebel army. Think about Eastern Europe were young girls are taken with promises of new lives to become sex slaves in the UK, the US and other Western countries. I, of course, hope that they do find her but they have to gain some perspective in all of this. Why should one little child have so much attention when she disappears but when others do, no-one hears about it? Even here, two young kids went missing for five days and not a murmur from the national media. Just local. I don't understand that at all? Why is there so many posters around asking for help? I mean, you'll get rewarded with a cool 2.6 million if you even give vague details of where she is. If you were the person who took her, wouldn't you hear that and go "Hey, that sounds pretty good money for a kid who isn't even anything special. Hell, lets take the dough and run!" So there is something suspicious about the whole routine. My mother has even gone as far as saying the father has something to do with her disapperence. When I asked why, she just said it was a feeling in her gut.
Then, oh my god, do not get me started on the media frenzy over all of this. Jesus Christ. There is so much contradictory evidence flying around, it's disgusting. That poor girl, if she ever is found then she'll be quietly asked to sell her story to The Sun or something. I mean, look at the following pieces of 'evidence' from newspapers (with dates and times):
"Chillingly, Murat (a suspect du jour) said: 'I know how it feels to Madeleine's parents because I have a daughter of three and a half.'" - The Express, News Report, 15th May
"As a parent of a four-year-old little girl it breaks my heart to imagine the anguish the parents must be going through." - The Express, Letter of the Day, 15th May
"Police swooped on Moscow-born Malinka, 22 after discovering e-mails from him on Murat's laptop computer." - The Mirror, 17th May
"Mr Malinka confirmed that he worked for Mr Murat earlier this year to create a website for his estate agency. The Russian citizen is believed to have volunteered to help the police." - The Times, 17th May
"THE HUNT FOR MADELEINE: RUSSIAN "PERVERT" QUIZZED" - Headline on Mirror website, 17th May, Morning
"THE HUNT FOR MADELEINE: RUSSIAN QUIZZED" - Headline on Mirror website, 17th May, Afternoon
"MADDY SUSPECT BEHAVED JUST LIKE HUNTLEY" - Front page of Daily Express, 16th May, referring to Ian Huntley's conversations to reporters in Soham, rather than the fact he murdered two children.
"SEX SECRETS OF MADDY SUSPECT...MADDY MAN SHARES GIRL WITH HUBBY." - Headlines in the Daily Star reporting the fact that Robert Murat is in relationship with 34-year-old-woman.16th May
"Murat was reluctant to be filmed." - The Sun, 15th May, Page 4, Paragraph 11
"He told his story and wandered around the scene in front of TV cameras." - The Sun, 15th May, Page 4, Paragraph 14
I'm actually starting to feel really sorry for this Murat guy, not one piece of evidence against him but already he and his personal life is being dragged over the coals. Then you have the politicians who are desperate for some good light wearing yellow ribbons (traditionally used to symbolize the International Suicide Prevention Program and to raise awareness against Testicular Cancer.) as a way of showing their support. Then, even television is not safe. A plotline in the soap opera Eastenders has had to be rewritten as it had a snatched baby in the plot and they feared that it would be too upsetting.
I think if people want to raise awareness of this topic, then shouldn't they be writing MORE drama and suchlike about child abductions so as we become more aware of how widespread the problem is? But it seems for now most people are content concentrating on cute children who disappear and those on Fleet Street grinning whenever one does so as they can pull out their big roll of "Pervert" synonyms.
I hope that Madeleine is okay and unscathed and returned home soon and that Murat is publically forgiven by the media for destroying his personal life.

I've been thinking this for ages, but whenever I say something people think I'm being selfish, but honestly, why is this case getting so much attention compared with others? A few months ago, I saw a news report that lasted all of a minute at the very end of a broadcast saying 'this child is missing, if you have any details, blah'. Some don't even get anything like that.
I don't think the parents had anything to do with it, but I do think they're making so much publicity themselves because it's making them feel less guilty for leaving her on her own. And it distracts everyone else, too. What were they thinking, leaving a three year old and other kids alone, when they could quite easily have used FREE creche facilities? They claim it helped their routine; bollocks, they've just flown from England to Spain, that's not something they'd do everyday is it?

I think that people care so much because she was just a normal kid
Ya know, it's like it could have happened to anyone
Even one of us when we were little.

I agree with "Teh Snaily" that they shouldn't of left her. You shouldn't leave a 3 year old and two 2 year olds alone for such a long time, especially in a foreign country of all places. Anything could have happened, what if one of them had a nasty fall or got hold of a dangerous substance or, as in this case someone got into them? But I think that her parents are more than paying the price for it now, and needless to say, deeply regret it.

yh. shes gone. they shouldnt have left her and gone to dinner. so they came back every half hour and were only in the next building? TOO FAR AWAY, TOO LONG A WAIT! its disgusting that theres a paedophile ring, but its disgusting how unfussed people are until the worst happens. like, hey let me walk across the road any random place with out looking... omg im dead its a tragedy! a tragedy of your head more like.
sorry to be so dismissive but im not saying nvm, im saying poor her not her parents. there all ;_; im thinking what about her siblings that were in the bed with her? theres no poor them, imagine how theyre gonna feel when they understand?

The reason there is so much attention on her is not because she was kidnapped, that happens all the time you're right. The reason so much media focus has been put on this is because she was marked by a pedophilia ring to be abducted. Portugal has some horribly disgusting politicians, no offense to anyone who lives there. But some high up politicians are involved in child pornography rings, so basically this case is trying to get swept under the rug. It wasn't investigated correctly from the start. All the focus of the media isn't so much on her, as it is on the fact that other children are caught up in this. Sadly, she just ended up being the unlucky child who exposed all of that. I highly doubt she comes home, its so unlikely after they're been missing this long. And it bugs me when people complain about her getting attention. Every little kid that gets kidnapped should get this much attention. Compared to some of the other things on the news, this is more important. And no offense, but I think its beyond disgusting that your mom is saying the parents are involved in this. She obviously hasn't put any thought at all into what they're going thought.
