Oh, Get OVER It!
Sometimes when I read the "GSB Awards" thread, I want to shoot myself. Often times, I read it to humor people who are asking for votes or "dropping in little hints." But, man! Some people can just be desperate. Over an award on the INTERNET? Jeez people. Get a grip.
Personally, I think that dropping hints is worse than asking for votes. Because there's a way you can portray yourself in a way so it SOUNDS like you don't really care about the word, but by the way you phrase it, people would be inclined to vote for you. Totally intentional and conniving, really. It's that simple way of saying, FOR EXAMPLE, "you know, I worked really hard on my profile last month and I feel really good about it, but I'm glad for the person who won." Why would you talk about your own profile when you're congratulating someone else? I've seen some people do this. Annoying... It's just a sneakier way to ask for votes.
And then there's the friends. Tell your friends you want to win Best Newbie or something, obviously they vote for you. But then your friends tell their friends, and pretty soon there could be a whole network of people voting for you through friends. THAT'S just unfair. I can say FOR SURE I've never talked to my friends about winning Best Blogger or asked for votes, because I know that's unfair on everyone else. I can understand it, I suppose, if friends want to vote for friends for that whole support thing, but asking for a vote or saying you really want to win it, well... that practically GUARANTEES votes. Note the plural.
And what's worse? I see some people dissing some of the winners. That's so uncool. I know people who diss one of my best friends on this site for winning a certain award, and they need to chill. Who cares? And why start a fight over it? I don't get why people can't just be happy for the people who won and leave it at that. And I can't understand why people are upset over silly little GSB awards every month. It kills the spirit. But I guess you can't change other people's arrogance.
Wow, I read that over and it sounded really harsh. But people are harsh about GSB Awards, so I think I'm justified in being pissed at people's arrogance. Man, I'm gonna go listen to Blake Lewis' stuff from iTunes and post this shit. Hey, have you SEEN this guy not on American Idol? Check him OUT!
A bit off-topic, yeah. But I wanted to share that with everyone! He's like... God.

Amen. I don't even vote for people for the GSB Awards anyway.

Yeah, jeeze, it's an INTERNET contest, and it's not even like there's a huge prize on the line or whatever.

I don't leave hints or ask anybody to vote for me. I don't care about winning and I'm pretty sure the majority of this site have no idea who I am. Hah.
Good blog, I hate how people say something like (just using this as an example, it hasn't happened) "Funky Platypus won best blogger? WTF!?!?!"
Don't worry that hasn't happened, I'm using it as an example lol but i hate how people do that.

:]
I agree.
I was kind of flattered though when people on the boards said they voted for me. I didn't even know who they were! o.o
But yes. Asking for votes is silly and makes it all unfair like. And..it's just the internet. :]

Yeah, but in elections, you have to promote yourself to a whole NATION, people who have never met you and live across the country, even. And politics are different. In elections, obviously people don't tell their friends to vote for such-and-such, since elections for president or governor are far more serious than a "popularity contest," so to speak.

okay I read up to
"Tell your friends you want to win Best Newbie or something, obviously they vote for you. But then your friends tell their friends, and pretty soon there could be a whole network of people voting for you through friends. THAT'S just unfair."
....
Isn't that basically how elections are? Including presidential ones.
I mean, strip it down to the core.
It's telling people to vote for you, they tell other people...etc.
Yeah that's about all I have to say.

I agree even though I guess I might've said something like that. I can't remember and I'm too tired to look back. Good blog though, it states a great fact :]

It always annoyed me how people whined how they don't win, when it's just going to come around again in 30 days.
Stef., June 3rd, 2007 at 06:01:34pm
How?
Funky Platypus, June 3rd, 2007 at 05:29:12pm
..thanks for making me feel like sh*t.
Sara., June 3rd, 2007 at 05:24:07pm
Your Blog = THE sh*t
Blake Lewis = THE SEX
My Tea = SOMETHING THAT MAKES ME HIGH!!!
Wee! I agree with you. It gets annoying when people ask you to vote for them. -_-
Letterbombx723, June 3rd, 2007 at 05:15:03pm
That's really true. I don't give a f*ck if my blogs stink (and I know they do). If I go 10 years on GSB without one award, I won't care.
