Myspace: Good and Bad
I used to have a profound loathing for Myspace. Not too long ago, I got an account so I could keep in touch with my old friends from school. My hatred of the site simmered down to a tiny bit of frustration, solely because I am a major Myspace n00b and I can't begin to figure that effing site out. But it's not as bad as a lot of people think, if you use it right.
A lot of people use Myspace to sluttify themselves. Like that word? This gives the site such an awful name. It's mostly girls from 13-16 years old who are selling themselves like that. Because then you have those Dateline programs and all those reports on the news about Myspace, and how principals in schools are doing searches for kids who use Myspace and busting them, like what happened in my eighth grade year. So how could a site designed for communicated with other people get such a bad name? And does Myspace have to be a bad thing?
As I've slowly gotten accustomed to Myspace, I figured out it's a pretty cool place. Keep in touch with all your friends, find new bands, express yourself. I like it. When used in a way that doesn't make yourself appear vain by trying to make yourself look appealing, Myspace can be an awesome thing. And there's privacy settings you can make, if it freaks you out that there's forty-year-old crazies living with their moms trying to get thirteen-year-olds in their bed. So you can protect yourself so you can only talk to your friends. I think it's a great site!
Sadly, that majority of people ruined what was once a great thing. Myspace is almost some sort of a taboo with my family. If my parents knew that I had a Myspace, I would be taken off the computer. And yet, I've got NOTHING that would reveal anything about me. I said I was 15, live in California, my name's Sarah. Posted a few pictures. No one can come and GET ME. My profile's set so random weirdos can't come up and be weird. But, I can't use Myspace for the sake of it being Myspace. All because some people are just VAIN in wanting attention. So that's my take on the whole Myspace thing. Yeah, it IS a bit overrated, not to mention completely confusing, but it's a cool thing when used right.

Kurtni, Croats dont have magic powers. Dujo does.
Anyways, I love MySpace cause when I add bands and put them on my Top friends list I feel as if they know who I am and care about it. Im naive so nevermind (even though a band I adore actually commented on my profile so woo). You will get the hand on HTML and similar, trust me. Since none of my friends have it (but I will make them have it cause I am like the revolutionary Internet hipster at school, I had the first blog and the first MSN, not that I brag). Its a pretty nifty way to get news and stuff. It has its bad sides also, as you mentioned, but I still like it. Scene Kids annoy the freaking hell out of me though, with their big-headed profiles, but thats another story...

I don't understand Myspace's appeal. I've never been on there for fear of all the weirdos. But I know a lot of bands get their music out to the public that way so I guess it does have its good points. I'll probably have an account one day but not now.

Some of my friends on MySpace have like a virus or hacker or something on theirs, so it posts bullatins and random comments to everybody..advertising stuff like...well, I won't say. But it's like the stuff advertised in Spam emails.
There really needs to be something done about that.

I have a myspace too. I don't even know why. It's fun I guess?
I agree with Kurnti. There are not enough people regulating it. When you have a bug and send an email you only get an automatic email that doesn't answer your question at all. You don't know who to refer to when something/someone bugs you.

I don't THINK so, I just used the upload button...?
But that was for my actual profile pictures from my camera.
I'd also like to take this time to point out that my icon is a total stud.

You need to HTML pictures don't you? I have my friends ask me "Can you give me that code thing to post a picture?" XD
vonny, June 7th, 2007 at 02:14:00am
I will when I edit my profile again. ;)
I just... don't want to mess with it. I had to make about ten thousand Blah Blahs asking people to help me with posting pictures. =/

*gasp* ..You must change it!
XD
vonny, June 7th, 2007 at 01:52:14am
And yeah, I did read it!
I do one of the things that annoy you. My song is automatic, but I need to change that. I bet it annoys the bejesus out of everyone. =O

I really think so. Dujo might as well be Jesus.
I once made a website when I was nine that used HTML code. I got it from a book that was written for 8 year olds, and it still works like a charm. Lost it though, and it was the only way I understood HTML. =(

I used to have a great loathing of MySpace too. My friend made one for me because she was appauled I didn't have one. Even though I told her I didn't want one.
It's alright. But it annoys me greatly. And people's layouts annoy me greatly. Did you ever read my blog about my "rules" for MySpace?
...And I hate how people get addicted to MySpace. ..I see nothing addicting about it.

Im no expert with HTML, but web design intrigues me so I want to get better with it. I actually got a domain name last night (impulsive move) and I was just going to make a little personal site to practice. Well... I can't even figure out how to get the stupid thing onto a server. I swear I don't know how Dujo does all these sites. I think Croats have magic website building powers that the rest of the world lacks.
Kurtni, June 7th, 2007 at 01:42:24am
I like finding local bands and stuff on myspace.
and I like keeping in touch with all my old friends that I don't get to talk to much anymore
Joni., June 7th, 2007 at 01:41:43am
That's true. But I guess that goes back to people being stupid, so I guess it's a problem on both sides. I don't get myself involved with that aspect of the site, so it's all good for me.
But Jesus Christ on a bike, I can't get all that HTML crap for the life of me...
