Iwo Jima Flag Raising.
This is the glorious Flag Raising on Iwo Jima. It was the 'second' picture. All the men cheered at the first raising. No one even noticed when they raised this one. But this one got all the fame.
Half of the men in this famous picture lost their lives in World War II. Not only that,but the true indenty of Harlon Block was not even known when the picture was front page news throughout the time.It was said Hank Hansen was Harlon Block.The three survivors were not even able to let the truth be known.They had to live a lie. They had to act like heroes,when they knew the truth,and didn't have the guts to speak up. It put one brave soul,Ira Hayes, into distress. Depression. Alcohol. He did,however admit the truth to Mrs.Block.
We all know now all the raisers of the flag,but the controversay lives forever.
Some people don't know the truth behind this famous picture.
I felt to share this, as I recently watched Flags Of Our Fathers,which depicts these actions.
