North Korea and It's People
Most North Koreans are extreamly poor. One out of every three of North Koreans rely on donations from the United Nations for food. In 1995, thousands of koreans starved to death after a flooding and a major drought. Both the flooding and the drought caused a massive famine. sixty-six percent of koreans are chronically malnourished or suffering from stunted growth.
Koreans don't know much about the outside world. It is against the law to have any source of communication like cell phones, televisions, and other devices. So, just about the whole population doesn't know that a human has been on the moon.
North Korea is very secretive. For example, in 2004 there was a train crash that left hundreads dead or injured. It took ten hours for the news of the crash to reach the United Kingdom.
For the koreans who want to leave the country, they have to ask the goverment to leave. Same with the people going into the country, they have to deal with the korean goverment to enter the country.
Americans who want to enter the country will have an even harder time gettin ginto the country. If you are an american getting into North Korea, you cannot have a camera or other communication devices. The only way you can bring a camera or other devices is if you get special permisson from the goverment to bring one, but there is also a downside. If you get the permisson you need, you will have an escort following you everywhere you go. The reason is they don't want you to give out information about the country.

Ah, America did not win the Vietnam War at all! And Korea's reason for increased suspicion of Americans is due to their supporting South Korea during the Korean War. A big part of the secrecy surrounding North Korea has to do with the belief they can be self-sufficient and to hide the large scale human rights abuses inflicted by the government on the people. Think of the "rehabilitation camps" for instance, nothing more than labour camps for those that might even lightly question authority, where the majority of inmates are never heard from again. The North Korean government arrogantly seems to believe if they say these camps don't exist the rest of the world will believe the lie. By preventing their people from learning about the world outside, they are effectively halting any desire for change. If the people don't know anything different from the system in which they live, they won't want democracy. And those that do learn, do question, disappear. The people are controlled through sequestration and fear.
