Perhaps A New Look On Right Or Wrong.
Disclaimer: I do not support illegal activity such as doing drugs, murdering or rape. This is just simply a different way to look at things.
When you think of the right thing to do, is it any of the following?
-Wearing a seatbelt
-Telling the truth
-Not resorting to violence in order to solve things
-Staying away from drugs
-Helping out friends in need.
Are all of those not anything more than just simple things in our mind that we know are the right thing to do? Things that we have been taught from a young age and never really questioned?
But here is another thing to think about:
Have you ever done one of these things, knowing that it was the wrong thing to do?
Who is it decides whats right? Who decides whats wrong?
For example, is seeking an outlet for emotional pain by murdering a group of innocent people bad? Most would say yes, right? But how many people would say no?
Would you say its a bad thing because those innocent people's lives are taken away with no reason to justify such a fate?
However, is it good because that person was able to let out those feelings? Whose to say they don't have the right to do that? Who decided all this? Why do they get to decide that?
If everyone is born the same way. If everyone was put onto the same Earth...than why do they not have the right to use their short lifetime any way they want?
In different civilizations, its alright to rape. To torture. Whereas somewhere such as America, thats not a commonly known thing to cheer for.
Just because its not morally satisfying to you...why can't it be an okay thing for someone else?
Maybe its us who are the wrong ones putting people in jail for theft. If you really look at it, we are just taking away there right as a human. Punishing them for living their life.
What justify's the right's and wrong's in life?

I think I understand what you're trying to say. Its a very deep subject.
You're right when you say Who Decides What Is Wrong and What Is Right? Take middle-eastern culture, making women wear bhurkas, beating them if they produce a female child, treating them worse than dirt.. What if this is the way everyone should act? Who's to say this is wrong? THERE IS NO UNBIASED ANSWER. So.. if you believe that killing is okay, then so be it. Really, if you believe that and are punished for killing someone, isn't it discrimination?
(Sorry if this made no sense, it seemed to work out in my head)

I don't agree. Sorry but, there are some things that are just NOT OK. torture, rape,... i don't think there is ANY reason for saying it's okay. I understand that you have to look at the reasons why people do that, but this doesn't allow them to do those things. Real strength is when you control your anger or whatever. Humans, animals, we all have dignity and it has to be protected. if we went back to accepting those kind of things we'd go back to Medieval Times.
I completely agree to Pure Idiocy.

I personally think it's a bad thing to rape and murder. Like you said, it's probably because I'm American, and that's how I raised: to think those things are wrong. But if people are raised to think it's okay...we can't change it, ya know? If they think it's right...so be it. That doesn't mean they have to agree with us or us with them.

i had this conversation with my sister the other day.
who made the rules for what is right and what is wrong??
well, apparently in the 10 commandments, there is something about not stealing & not killing.
i know that much.
but still...most of the things that are frowned upon in society is because we've been told it's wrong..by the government...hm.
life is very..complex...xD

Its wrong to kill someone and its wrong to rape O_O
obviously for a good reason.
would you like to be emotionally scarred for the rest of your life and scared to go out?

This is the exact reason that world peace will never exist. People don't understand eachother. If I could make the Nazi understand the Jew, he prolly woulnt hate him so much. If I could make the radical muslim understand the average american atheist, he prolly woulnt want to give his life to kill others. The sad truth is, people will never understand eachother.
The established laws we have are prolly best. If you can think of somthing better, you should tell the world.

Laws don't have to be fact. Evidence is fact. Laws are there to protect the populace. If there are laws you do not like or think are untenable, then are steps that can be taken for judicial review of a given law, but while it is on the books, it is law, and if evidence substantiates the perpetration of a crime, then in all likelihood a crime has been committed, regardless of the perpetrators opinion or though on the matter.

There are a lot of written laws that I and or people don't agree with or thing is right. They aren't facts. They are laws..yes. And usually the right thing, but that doesn't mean they are a fact at all.
Jessie.Tastic!, February 19th, 2008 at 11:42:02pm
Not when it is written in law...
Grandma, February 19th, 2008 at 11:40:11pm
Yes, but who says that those people are right?
All I'm saying is that there is no fact that something is the right thing and that something else is the wrong thing. Its all opnions and morals.
Jessie.Tastic!, February 19th, 2008 at 11:37:17pm
No one is exempt even those with mental illness, or just a plain backwoods upbringing. Wanting to think something is okay doesn't make it okay. That's why society chose a legal system.
Grandma, February 19th, 2008 at 11:35:51pm
Well yah, obviously. Its just...people in different mind frames think of different things as "ok" and "not ok"
That was just my point here.
Jessie.Tastic!, February 19th, 2008 at 11:33:36pm
The multitude of law enforcement personnel, judges, coroners, lawyers and everyday people who have had to deal with the negative effects of crime. These people, often as individuals put pressure on government to enact laws in the hope of preventing such acts, but also to have legal recourse should any of those events take place.
Grandma, February 19th, 2008 at 11:31:56pm
Pure idiocy,
I wasn't supporting the fact that they do those things. I don't support murders. But, I was just htinking about what makes it a serious crime. and who decides that is all.
Jessie.Tastic!, February 19th, 2008 at 11:28:02pm
People work hard for what they have, it's not a great feeling to have someone else take those things away. And tbh looking at murder in the sense that it's a good thing someone let out their feelings is kinda horrendous. There are a number of other non-violent ways to express anger and frustration. There has to be restrictions on people's behaviours to some extent, otherwise there would be chaos.
People who have no remorse for serious crimes usually have one or more psychiatric disorders.
