Shannon's Blog of doom (1st installment)

Hi, my name is Shannon.

I like music and movies and randomness. I'm gonna use this to post things that I find interesting (Like youtube vids, pictures, music ect.)

For my first post I am gonna put review for the new Fall Out Boy album Infinity On High.

I am a Fall Out Boy fan and I was really excited to get the new album and I have had it since 2 weeks before it came out (don't worry I bought it the day it came out even though I already had it) I went to Best Buy to get it because it was supposed to come with 2 bonus songs that you could download off of a site but my computer is a douche bag and it wouldn't work. Anywho, when I first got to hear the album I was so excited (I had been counting down for 74 days...yes I'm crazy) The album is very different yet similar to older Fall Out Boy and have a new sound and he album is more soulful and show's off Patrick's vocal range more than the previous albums.

Let the song by song analysis begin:

Thriller-This song is a great opener for the record. It starts off with an intro from Jay-Z It reminds me a lot of the songs on 'From Under The Cork Tree' and is exactly what I expected for a new Fall Out Boy song. It is one of my favorite tracks on the album. I love the lyrics and feel that it reflects the band's experiences over the past year. I give it a 8/10.

The Take Over,The Breaks Over- The second track on the album has more of a beat and great lyrics that are somewhat overshadowed by the killer guiter solos from Panic! At The Disco's Ryan Ross and Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory. For me therse guitar parts make the song. I give it a 8/10.

This Ain't A Scene,It's An Arms Race- The first single off of the album has more of a funky edge with a great chorus. It was a great choice for a single because it showcases the new sound on the record. I think it has been overplayed on the radio but can still hold up as a good song even though I have heard it 50 billion times. It's one of those songs you want to be sick of but you aren't really.7/10.

I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me and You)- Long song titles are Fall Out Boy's specialty and luckily this song is worth the time it takes to say the title. I like the song but I feel that maybe the band may have got a little lazy on this one. The chorus gets very repetitive and I find it hard to listen to the song the entire song without getting bored. This song is a little slower and more of a love song.7/10.

Hum Hallelujah- My personal favorite song off of the album. Pete's lyrical genius is shown in this songs catchy chorus and clever verses. The melody of the song is great too.10/10.

Golden- Golden is a beautiful departure from the rest of the album but still fits in. It is slow and sad. Patrick's excellent vocals matched with Pete's honest lyrics with just the piano playing make this song one of my favorites. It is different from any other song on this record and makes you realise how truly gorgeous Patrick's voice is. The song has so much emotion but does not feel forced as is the case with some bands who do songs like this because they feel they have to but that is not the case with this song.9/10.

Thnks fr th Mmrs- The beginning of this song sounds like something from a musical or movie soundtrack. It is very orchestrated and has great hooks. The song is unique and I can't help but tap my toes when I listen to it. It stands out to me yet is not one of my favorite songs on the album. 7/10.

Don't You Know Who I Think I Am?- I like this song but it does not stand out as much. It's one of those songs that you know and you like but you can't remember the name of when you're listening to it.6/10.

The (After) Life Of The Party- Another one of my favorite songs on the album. It's sound is unique. It reminds me of 'I've Got A Dark Alley...' From From Under The Cork Tree, kind of because the tone of the songs is kind of similar. It seems to me that it is about when you like someone but they are kind of a whore and don't know you exist.9/10

Carpal Tunnel Of Love- The first song athat I heard off of this album,it actually used to be my favorite but now ironically enough it is my least favorite. I don't deny that it has great lyrics and music but I just don't like it for some reason. I don't feel it is up yo par with the other songs off of the album which is unfortunate because it is going to be the second single off of it. The music video is quite amusing though and stars the Happy Tree Friends.4/10

Bang The Doldrums- I love this song. The chorus is catchy but not obnoxiously catchy. It has meaningful lyrics. The song has a really good flow to it and is fun to listen too.8/10.

Fame < Infamy- A more instrumental and danceable song. It is good but slightly forgetable.

You're Crashing,But You're No Wave- This is more of a story type song and is unlike Fall Out Boy's usual style and song structure. I don't like it as much as the rest of the album but the guest vocals by Butch Walker are excellent. His parts make this song unique and worth listening to.5/10.

I've Got All This Ringing in My Ears and None on My Fingers- The last song on the album closes it out well. The song once again experiments with instrumentation. It is a very good closing song because it brings the album full circle in a lot of ways.8/10.
A second or so after the song fades out you heear applause and a robotic voice saying "Now press repeat" The album is so good that I often do just that. All in all the album is worth buying or atleast listening to if you like Fall Out Boy's albums or if you have never heard them. The songs all have a unique distinct sound and the album follows the themes of love and fame. Long time fans will not be dissapointed by this cd. Fall Out Boy's infectious melodies and Patrick Stump's amazing vocal range along with Pete Wentz's lyrical integrity make this a worthwhile album that is very easy to listen to over and over again.

Thanks for reading, I worked really hard on my review and tried not to be biased by my overall love for Fall Out Boy. If you liked my review plz pm me. I am going to try to update this blog often.
