Rumors

Why do we pay attention to them? Why do we believe them? No one knows the answer.

Rumors happen to everybody, sometimes they're bad, most of the time they're REALLY bad. Rumors surround me everyday; school, tabloids, work. The worst rumors happen at school and Monterey Secondary College starts them all: I've heard rumors that people in my year level are pregnant, got wasted a few times, do drugs and smoke.

Last year rumors were going around all the time about me. Apparently I was going out with a 35 year old man, lost my virginity to him, had an abortion and was working at Club X in Melbourne, none of that was true, because of the idiot who started all that crap child services came round to my house asking all sorts of crazy questions; where did this man live? whose idea was it? did I persuade him?. I found out who started all that crap: Joel Mcorkell. Dad came round to the school to have a talk with Joel, in front of everyone in my year level he told Joel that if he didn't quit making up crap about people he was gonna have a really bad headache. Joel was sh*****g himself. Dad wouldn't beat him up or anything like that, he says hes too weak and sensitive, he just wanted to scare him a little.

For a long time there were no rumors made up about me, until this afternoon, I heard a rumor, not about me, about my dad. Joel was telling Everyone, and I mean everyone, that my dad was arrested for child abuse and spousal abuse. How the hell could he be arrested for spousal abuse when he doesn't even have a girlfriend? As for child abuse, he hasn't laid a hand on me or my sis all our lifes, except for normal stuff like hugs and play fighting. He says people who abuse their own children are low life scum. All afternoon people were coming up to me asking if I was ok, if my dad did abuse me I think I'd be covered in bruises and won't be able to walk properly. Dad is really mad about it. Hey, I would be to.

So, why do people make up rumors? Are they bored with their own life? Are they trying to get back at someone they hate? Are they doing just for a laugh? Well, there's nothing funny about rumors, whether they're about you or not. I admit I have believed a rumor in my life, but it was actually something that I could believe; In grade 6 my teachers car was vandalized in the parking lot in front of primary school, I believed it because there was a whole school assembly about it and I saw the damage done at recess. I have never made up a rumor about anybody, I've thought about it before but I just said to myself No. I couldn't give a crap about people who make up rumors all the time, unless someone has told a rumor about me, my friends or my family or do it all the time for no reason at all.

People believe rumors in tabloid magazines all the time and they're ridiculous: Dane Cook and Jessica Simpson had a one night stand 2 years ago and suddenly she had a pregnancy scare. Jennifer Anniston hooks up with Vince Vaughn and then they're engaged. Jamie Lynne Spears is pregnant and then shes engaged. Miley Cyrus has a new boyfriend and wants to go all the way with him.

I say the only people who know the truth about rumors is the person the rumor is about.

One more thing: Rumors are stupid and ridiculous.
