Why won't she understand that the internet can be dangerous?
Last semester I made friends with a year 7 girl named Skye. She doesn't have many friends because people tease her because she has red hair, how pathetic.
Anyway, over the time we've been friends she says that shes grown to trust me with things and I'm always there for her. Why wouldn't I be? Her mum treats her like something she pulled out of her ear and her dad died two years ago, poor thing.
Well, last week she told me that she met this guy from Canada, Callum, over some site like MySpace, I can't remember what it was called though. I told her to be careful on those sites, she asked why, I told her thats how pedophiles get kids, and guess what: she didn't care. She told me that Callum is 14 and wouldn't do anything like that. I said that the pictures of him on that site are probably not even him, she asked how, I said google or they could be photos of him when he WAS 14 or he's really good with photoshop. I told her he could be an older man living down the street from her, but no, all she was "Nope, not Callum", I just shook my head and said "Skye you never know. You have never met him", then she said "How would you know?" so I told about my experience, but she still didn't listen.
One thing I wanna know is why hasn't her mum or her stepdad told her about the dangers of the internet? The 1st thing my mum and sisters did when I got MSN was warn about these things and I wish I'd listened to them.
Well, Skye is going to wish she listened to me, because apparently Callum is coming to stay with her for a few weeks. I told her that if he does anything or try anything to call me immediately.
12 and 13 year olds need to be aware of these things because it can happen to anyone.

No, Love, she's in year 7 (:
Do her parents know? I agree with everyone else. Tell her parents and make sure there's an adult with her when they meet.

I think a lot of people don't understand that they need to take extra precautions on the internet. Like Slappy, I've made a few close calls myself. I still don't trust people on GSB, which is one of the two reasons I don't post my picture on here. Because some people on here are just wierd.
Like everyone else said, hopefully there's an adult there with her when she meets him. Because if there's not, then this is going to get serious.

let her parents know.
if a 14 year old is allowed to do that something is SERIOUSLY up.

I made mistakes of giving my phone number/address out over the internet, and I think it was a really close call, seeing as the people from here I met in person aren't pedos D:
But there are certain people I don't trust, and it takes me a while before I actually get to giving out my info and stuff.
Tell her to be careful and keep an eye on her just in case. :\
She might not be so lucky if something happens.

D= omg.
if he's coming to stay with her,
make sure there's an adult around when she meets him...
and yes, keep a close watch on her. that's so dangerous, what's she doing. especially without being aware.
I mean, I met a girl off of the internet that I had on webcam and talked to for a bout two years, and I still took precautions and brought my dad with me to meet her. We're best friends ever right now, and she's actually here right now. but still, make sure she's careful.

Keep a close eye on her. I would definitely want to be there when this guy gets there, and make sure her mom and stepdad are there too, always.
