How to write a good blog.

Hello everyone!

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of things that aren't really "blog material", so to speak. So I've decided to make a blog about it so that hopefully some of your sanity will be regained. I know I loose all of mine when I read a blog that's two lines and spelled wrong :]

Note: Please read the blog rules before you post a blog. It will save you a lot of time and sanity. Live by those rules, actually.

What is a blog? Well, let's turn to the dictionary for this one:
blog (n): an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.

And there you have it. However, some people are inferring this to mean that it can be a two lined, misspelled, grammatically incorrect thing. But that's what the blogs are for. (However, please don't go on the blogs and try to do that, it gets annoying, PLEASE push yourself to spell something right).

In order to make a good blog, you need three things that we all learned in school: spelling, grammar, and punctuation! I do not want to see a sentence taht iz splld lyke dis, use grammar like dat, or pun-ctuates! things. (like) this? That's annoying! People will start to think really badly of you, and even if you're smart, you'll look dumb. Also, nobody will read your blog if it hurts their head just to read the title.

First off, please spell things correctly. I always write a blog with dictionary.com open in another tab to refer to if I need help spelling things or finding a synonym to make the blog a bit more interesting. Or, put it in Microsoft Word and hit spell check. Oh, and please, capitalize important words and the first word in a sentence. This is elementary school, come on! Always be sure to check your work. Give your blog a read over, at least once. You'll be thankful!

Another thing, most people can't use proper grammar and punctuation. I am sorry, but most people keep switching from present to past to future tenses. Also, people can't figure out when to put quotes, periods, question marks, exclamation points, colons, semi colons, hyphens, and ellipses. Ellipses are the "..." symbols used when you are writing a quote, but you do not want to write the whole thing. It is not used at the end of a sentence, as a sort of substitute for a period. Try using this website in order to know what punctuation to use when.

Another issue is finding a good topic to write about. Most people like to write rant blogs, and that's fine. Just make it interesting, in a well thought out manner. Also, with any type of blog you do, make sure you have an interesting subject with facts to back your opinions up. You can't just make a blog about how everyone hates you because you're emo. You also can't make a blog that generalizes, such as saying that everyone hates Obama because he's black. Wrong! They may be opinions, but they don't have any facts behind them. It doesn't make for a very interesting or educated blog if you have no facts to back your story/opinion/argument up with.

So there you go! Hopefully these tips will help you write an interesting, well thought out, spelling-and-grammar checked blog. Remember, if you spell something wrong, you can always go back and edit your blog with the edit tool on the blog page. Hope this helps!
