Humanity's Blunder

I've been thinking about this for a long time, but I don't think I've ever told this to anyone before. A lot of times, I'll be in my room thinking about how everything works, and one day I realized just how greedy people have truly become.

Sure, you've heard this a million times. But really, stay with me, here. First off, it is one of our primal instincts to look out for ourselves, isn't it? At the beginning of time, we came to be without "morals" or "rules," so we basically learned to look out for ourselves, through our most primitive, early ancestors. At that time, we only knew what we had to do to keep us alive, and we would most likely go to any means to achieve it. We desired to find a way to achieve, which in turn granted us power. The more power we have, the more successful we are in life; therefore, the more we want it, and the more drastic measures we would reduce to in order to obtain that power. This causes greed.

Really, we haven't changed all that much. There are so many people who are only concerned with themselves that they are totally oblivious to whatever is going on around them, or really couldn't give it a second thought. But, that's not okay now, since the idea of "morals" have come into play. We've lost sight of other people, or frankly, we've never had it since the beginning.

Wouldn't it have made sense if our earliest ancestors were to realize that banding everyone else together and working as one people would prove more fruitful instead of putting the "every man for himself" idea into effect? Sure, eventually we formed tribes and small communities - but for the sake of other people? Then, leaders would emerge, and eventually some conflict would arise between people with more power and people with less power. Eventually, people with more power banded together with other people with more power, and they lived better lives than most other people. The others lived in poverty and owned less, living in worse conditions. And then, people who DID own power would fight with their equals, or their lessers would rebel, eventually causing the cycle to start all over. Hatred, prejudice, all those ugly words stem from this selfish nature, to look out for oneself.

And think about that cycle - doesn't it apply to today? How wealthier people fight with each other, primarily to better themselves? Meanwhile, people in poverty suffer because all those other people in power are too concerned with their own image that they won't do anything to help. Sure, you'll see some politicians going out and supporting all these charities and what-not, but how much of it is truly sincere? Since the beginning of time, people have missed something quite simple, something that would most likely spare us from all this corruptness in the world. If people were to simply look out for each other from the start, it would end in all the better. Not just from a moral standpoint, but also a logical standpoint.

THE MORAL: Well, this part you should know. It's simply not fair that some people should be bathing in their own money while some others would kill for three square meals a day. People are DYING of hunger while others are complaining about eating their veggies. Pretty sad, isn't it? What's also sad is that the resolution is quite simple. To throw some random example up in the air, say that, for one week, every family in the United States/Wherever You Live were to donate one, just ONE, dollar to a single charity for, say, families in some poverty-stricken country, let's use Africa as an example. Now, how many families are in, say, AMERICA? And how many more families can owe more than a dollar a week, just to make another point? Consider this: There are more than 300 million people in America, and my dad says that there are, more or less, 100 million families in America. If we were to do that charity for an entire month, wouldn't that be helping things out? At least one dollar a week for four weeks, that's not asking for much, is it?

THE LOGICAL: This is also quite simple, just think about it for a sec. From the start, if people were to simply band together instead of becoming divided nations or whatever, technically we would all be SHARING an equal amount of power and wealth, wouldn't we? Therefore, all of us would be well off in life, no one for the worse, but no one for the better. BUT, with modern politics, we kinda screwed that up (different nations, leaders, etc). So, in the big picture, it's a little late for that. But, I'll use an analogy, because the idea can be applied in a whole bunch of other situations. Say there's two groups of students working on a project. Which group would be more successful: the group with a single leader assigning everyone else jobs, or a group with everyone choosing a specific part of the project they'd like to work on? I figure the latter, since there's bound to be resistance in the first.

Just something to think about. There were other points I wanted to make, like considering the Roman downfall or stuff like that, but I feel like a COMPLETE NERD typing this all out. I'm kind of on a roll, because sometimes people can really piss me off and, like I said, I'm pretty sure I've never told this to anyone before. It's nice to rant.
