Saving the world on a Saturday

I was gonna write this two weeks ago. ****.

As it says in the title, I helped save the world. A little bit. Kinda. Okay, not really, but whatever. The point of this blog is that I participate in a Model UN program. Model UN is when a bunch of people (middle schoolers in my case) get together to debate topics discussed by the real UN while representing a certain country. Go look it up - its fun. So anyway. Two weeks ago on Saturday, I went to a Model UN conference. During this conference (the biggest one of the year) I represented Pakistan on the topic of landmines. Pakistan is one of the 15 countries in the world that still produce landmines, but we (during the conference, you are the country you represent) use them to protect the Kashmir border from India (again-look it up.) However, we want them out of our agricultural areas so we can farm. So basically I had to find a way to say “We want to keep making landmines to but in other peoples territory, but we also want you to give is money so we can get them out of our soil” without making everyone hate me. Not an easy task. In the End, my resolution didn’t get passed because of the complete dick that was representing Kuwait. However, my committee did pass a resolution to fund education of civilians, removal of landmines, the destroying of caches, and the limiting of production to anti-tank landmines. Yay for middle school kids with common sense! Now if only our world leaders had some…
