I have tried cigarettes and liked it. However, the smell was SO nasty. I can quit whenever I can although in my family there are people who can't quit no matter how much they try. Considering I'm aware of the damage cigarettes bring I'm smart enough to say no.

I occasionally smoke and I'm not addicted. I could easily give up...I only do it when I'm out at gigs anyway...

Um, how occasional is occasional?

Sid, apparently you're NOT alone, there seem to be three of you so far.

Cut[e], if you realize the damage...why do it? I understand you like it, but not everything people like is worth it. Rapists like to rape. Serial killers like to kill. Is it worth going to prison for decades/life? Hmm.

So far, I don't buy the "I can quit any time I want to" mantra. That's what crack addicts say. That's what disgustingly sloppy drunk people say. It's not true, either. Cigs have NICOTINE people...before you realize it, you've got a mental and physical dependency. It ain't a party after that.

I pretty much agree with all your sentiments. "I can quite when I wanna" is desperation talking. If you can quit, do it. You'll just keep thinking "I can quit, I'm in control", until one day you wake up hacking up blood and reaching for your first of fifty daily ciagrettes and you'll realise you're not in control anymore.

One excuse I always hear banded around by smokers at my school is "I'm not stupid, I know what I'm doing", when others point out their stupidity for smoking. I can't stand that. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

I dont smoke, and I dont really like being in smoke filled places ( like the school toilets!) but I think if people want to smoke then they can, they know the damage that they are doing to their health. If they say they cant quit because they are addicted then why start in the first place if you knew the risks, but I do think that there should be help for people who want to quit.

smoking shouldn't be banned.

people have the choice to smoke if they want.

and the government NEVER gave a shit about us, why would they start caring now?

the one good thing is the smoking ban in restaurants and other public places, and now they have designated smoking areas. people have freedom, if they wanna smoke they should be allowed to. if they don't want to and also don't wanna be around it, then they shouldn't have to.

I work in a restaurant and occasionly have to cover the smoking area, it's the most disgusting thing to do.

Imagine a fog of sickness and of course you can't open the windows because the guests complain because of the cold, (smokers can't feel heat)

so the smoke makes the room a furnace and i'm in theory smoking the equvilant of 20 a day. yet i don't touch ciggerettes.

and you might say it's your choice whether to work in a smokey enviroment, well at the moment because i'm studying i have to work in a restaurant and most restaurant are the same, they won't hire you unless you sign a contract stating that you will work in a smoking enviroment.

I know alot of people who smoke. Do I? No. Do I like it? No. Smoking is bad, but if someone trys to ban it by a law, it will be like Prohibition all over again. It's the person's right to smoke if they want to, it most definetely isn't good for them, but still it is there chioce. The main problem is for people who are by smokers, who don't smoke and won't and the fact that they could get lung cancer from that.

smoking is not good for you obviously and can cause cancer but it is the persons choice to do it. But why are there ads for ciggaretes on programing that teens would watch? Same thing goes for beer. They are trying to get new customers and i don't think that is right. Some teens will think that you need to have those things if your going to a party cuz they make it look so fun to smoke or drink when in reality it sucks.

Meh. I started smoking recent;y. But I'm mostly a social smoker which means I hardly ever smoke a whole cigarette by myself and I will only ever smoke 1-2 a day if that. I smoke roll-ups which are better for you becayse regualr cigarettes are processed and so have more shit in them. I'm probabley gonna kick the habit when I finish this pouch anyway.

And as for smoking drugs, I fully support getting stoned. But I'm not touching cocaine. No way.

It's the opposite, actually.

Neither is 'better' for you, but manufactured cigarettes are safer as they contain filters. Just thought you ought to know...
