i don't really have an opinion.
i'm not anti-smoking, or for smoking.
i wouldn't smoke myself, i'd probably be a rare occasion type.
it's people's choice. if they want to smoke, they should be aware of the consequences.
it has been nailed into them by public advertising and campaigns many a time.
it causes cancer, they know. the companies know, they still want their profit, though.
it's like drinking, that can cause serious illnesses.
i don't think smoking makes someone a bad person.
i actually find it strangely attractive in the opposite sex sometimes.
that's just me.

One thing that really bugs me is when kids smoke. I was seeing a movie with some friends and this group of 10 year olds were smoking!!!

Waste of money.
Pointless, why would you want to inhale even more pollution?
Increases your risk of cancer, chronic bronchitus, emphysema, etc.
Pretty icky in general. Ugh.

you all say the same crap over and over

yes, we know it's bad for your long term health

but should the government really get involved?

things like thetruth.com teach kids that propaganda for a *good* cause is okay
it gets incredibly obnoxious too

"some guy who worked for smoking in the early eighties said something stupid"
wow, a million anti-smoking people NOW say things that are RETARDED!

it's a bunch of propaganda and it isn't even helping
smoking isn't allowed to advertise on television but we're constantly force-fed anti-smoking bullshit on television and in school textbooks and health videos

yeah, if you plan to live past the age of seventy don't smoke, but anti-smoking is horrible and annoying

they make heaps of money from smoking

My plan would be to raise the legal smoking ages up 1 every year so that eventualy all the smokers die and no younger people start

people who smoke is not what i am against, i am against the selfish way that smokers drop they're cigerette ends on the floor in the street, would they do that at home? And also i hate the fact that we non smokers are being forced to live with it more and more day by day, yes i know smokers are given they're own areas in resturants and i know that there is a pub newly opened in Blackpool for non smokers, but if you sit in a restuarnt and have a meal and you sit near a smoker and the smoke wafts its way over to you it spoils the meal, and people like myself with asthma should be given the common courtousy of being able to go out and not have to come home early because some twit has blown smoke in your face.

If is smoking legal, had been known to cause health problems (cancer being the most severe) and alcohol is legal, which causes liver diseases, why have drugs been outlawed? For health issues? Seems fairly stupid to me. I honestly think it should be legal, because if it werent, people would be doing it illegally and it would turn into a drug cartel. People get killed in drug related crimes all the time, over who's buying what, or the dealer didnt have any, or they stole it, it's an issue. With nicotine being so addictive, I think the same thing would happen.

where I live smokers don't even have a section in a resturaunt anymore

I never noticed the smoking when they did have a section anyway

and you act as if the only shit people just discard on the street are used cigarrettes; there's much more
with that logic, outlaw McDonalds, their shit is thrown everywhere and obeisity is worse than smoking in the US anyway

I don't think that the anti-smoking propaganda is right, mainly because a lot of people buy into it

it's amazing when propaganda works, it's incredibly frusturating when you're one of the people who see it happen but aren't sucked in

I don't and won't smoke, but...

Banning smoking is like banning food. Too many people rely on it. I don't think they should, but it's their choice.

I hate smoking. I really don't see why people do it because they KNOW it's not going to do them any good. It annoys me when people say they want to stop cos they know what it does but they can't cos they're addicted... if they know the dangers of it then why did they start it in the first place? I also hate it that smoking has become 'cool' and that people get pressured in to it. The whole smoking issue isn't just about the health risks. It also can cause bullying and peer pressure.
I also think that smoking should be banned in all public places because if someone chooses to smoke then that's their problem, it shouldn't be inflicted on other people.

-there are many things in life that are 'bad' for you
-"cause im addicted" is a line of bullshit they choose not to quit
-believe it or not it IS possible to not fall into peer pressure
-i have to deal with intolerance all the time and people inflicting their bullshit on me maybe not physically but emoitonally/mentally

Umm excuse me, yeah you do get addictied, evidently you have never had to quit smoking, Your body has withdrawls from the absence of nicotine and you get sick, you can't eat anything withouth vomiting, you're an emotional mess because you are so use to having nicotine, once it's gone, you can't help but crave it. Smoking is one of the biggest addictions you can have.

I know there are many things in life that are bad for you but this discussion is about smoking and that is my opinion of it.
Nicotine is an addictive drug therefore you CAN get addicted to smoking as I_worship_tre_cool said.
Yes it is possible not to fall under peer pressure sometimes, but pressure to smoke by your friends is very common. I've seen it happen.
