-"cause im addicted" is a line of bullshit they choose not to quit
-believe it or not it IS possible to not fall into peer pressure

First point: No. Its not bullshit. A lot of people cant just quit, just like that. They cant do it cold turkey. It takes an incredible amount of will power and strength to do it.
Second point: Yes, thats true, but some people are easily lead, some people will do anything to be cool, or to fit into a group. Maybe they did it just so people wouldn't give them any shit?
Third point: Mmhmm. So you can deal with it? Maybe these people cant. Just because you can, doesn't mean others can. Just because something is one way doesn't mean its the only way.
im against ppl like my mother who use to smoke inside the house constantly and smoke up the place

I just heard something today that will never make me smoke.
My grandpas both died because they smoked. One of my nanas is almost dead, because of smoking, and the other is almost surely going to die because of smoking.
Gah I hate it so much. The kids who say "I'm not addicted, I can quit whenever I want", well, quit, and quit now! Its better now before its too late and you cant quit!
Even if you make it and quit it .. you're like .. still an Addict .. some people are .. I know people, who stopped it .. and still wake up in the night and think of a cigarette and stuff .. or want it really bad in a stress situation ..
So if you don't wanna end up like this, you shouldn't start it ..
I hate smoking. I really don't see why people do it because they KNOW it's not going to do them any good. It annoys me when people say they want to stop cos they know what it does but they can't cos they're addicted... if they know the dangers of it then why did they start it in the first place? I also hate it that smoking has become 'cool' and that people get pressured in to it. The whole smoking issue isn't just about the health risks. It also can cause bullying and peer pressure.
I also think that smoking should be banned in all public places because if someone chooses to smoke then that's their problem, it shouldn't be inflicted on other people.

I know there are many things in life that are bad for you but this discussion is about smoking and that is my opinion of it.
Nicotine is an addictive drug therefore you CAN get addicted to smoking as I_worship_tre_cool said.
Yes it is possible not to fall under peer pressure sometimes, but pressure to smoke by your friends is very common. I've seen it happen.
i never said it isnt possible to fall under peer pressure i said it was a CHOICE. ANd yes smoking is bad for you i fully acknolwdge it is. ANd i have tried to quit, it is hard but things in life are hard, you work through them. And we all know nicotine is addictive thats why its so hard to quit but it is possible to quit.

Yeah, well saying being addictied is a line of Bullshit was stupid. You know, you said you tried to quit, then after everything you said up there, it just gives me the oddest feeling you have never smoked and were just enhancing your arguement. But aside from that, your personal experiences have nothing to do with how everyone else handles smoking.

atttention seeker, we already know they are
but there was a point made that peer pressure is easy to escape and yes, I believe that's true
I know this sounds cliche, but if you're hanging out with kids who even try peer pressure on you, they probably aren't your friends and you're only hanging out with them for popularity, etc....further more peer pressure is as easy as, "no"
I was offered a cigarrette two days ago by some one two years older and much cooler...you know what I did?
"no thanks"
I didn't launch into some dorky bullshit, "no! smoking is bad and addictive and deadly and smelly and bullshit bullshit bullshit blah blah blah"
those people are uncool without anti-smoking
it's as-fucking-easy as saying, "no thanks"

I don't think the goverment should do anything more about it. I smoke and I know the risks that come with it, I've already got the labels on my packet telling how terrible it is, but its MY choice.
Sueing the tobbacco companies is wrong, anyone who smokes knows what it entails and therefore it is their own fault.
I hate how everyone thinks every smoker is the same, not all of us will throw our dog ends on the floor, some of us will put them out and throw them in the bin, and I won't smoke indoors or around children, infact I don't like smoking around anyone else other than other smokers.
We're not all the same!

Mmm. And guess who has to pay when you (smokers) get sodding lung cancer, eh?
I do.
Not you, not the government, me. Me and the other 60,000,000 of us, we have to pick up after you when you're burning your lungs away. I'm probably going to spend the rest of my life paying tax to keep you alive long after your lungs have packed up.
Rant over.

I pay it too, non smokers aren't the only people who pay tax, what about all the tax I pay on my cigarettes? What about the tax I get deducted from my wages every month?
Smokers probably pay more tax than non smokers do

because the government thinks that if the price goes from 2.50 to 3.50 kids will think, "holy shit, I don't have an extra dollar to spend!"
hell, tax payers without kids have to pay for schools, smokers are paying taxes so that anti-smoking is forced upon our kids when it doesn't even work....etc.
Smoking is one of the most disgusting habits EVER. I don't see why on earth anyone would even start in the first place. What makes it worse is that it harms others around you too.
It really should be illegal. Or if not that, then banned in public places.

You don't think that there is anything wrong with smoking??
It causes lung cancer, the smokes goes up into the atmosphere, it affects those around you, your skin turns a funny colour, your eyes go all weird and your fingernails turn yellow.
Nothing wrong at all.

Yes, but you're paying to kill yourself.
Everyone else is paying to keep you alive after you've done that.
Your smoking is not just YOUR problem. It's everyone's problem. And the next person who says secondhand smoke isn't dangerous is getting smacked because it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Secondhand smoke contains the same chemicals as what the smoker directly inhales. So when I am walking home from school behind kids my age who are smoking, they aren't just killing themselves, they're killing me too. That makes it my problem, doesn't it?
It's not just people's lives. The governemnt puts high taxes on tobacco for a reason. They don't want people buying it! Guess why. We don't have the funds to solve the problem a couple decades from now when we will need a CURE for lung, mouth, and throat cancer instead of just treatment.

I'm aware I'm killing myself smoking, but its my choice to.
I know people smoke around others. Personally I wouldn't, I will only smoke around other smokers, I only smoke outside and away from other people. I know as a kid I breathed in a hell of a lot of second hand smoke. Basically it was killing me before I'd even started smoking myself.
The high taxes have done what the goverment wanted to my case. I'm trying to quit as it's costing too much.
To be honest I think smokers shouldn't be given treatment for lung, mouth or throat cancer, because as you say your just killing yourself.
So if I get one of them in my life I'll be fully aware that its my own fault.

we have to start thinking that when children and babies breath in the second hand smoke they smoke aswell and it is deadly for them, it causes many lung problems and skin problems, also io know that quiting smoking is difficult but it can be done with perserverence, (sp)

Thats why pregnant women are heavily advised not to smoke and smoking around children is also not recommended.

yep i agree, also the babies COULD be born with lung problems and other problems, best not to smoke while pregnant if you want a healthy child, i know not all babies who are born to smoking mothers are born with problems but would you really want to take the risk
I get angry when I see obviously pregnant women drinking or smoking. Someone needs to slap them and tell them to quit being self centered, you're not just killing yourself anymore.
