I am a social smoker. I am not addicted. I hardly ever smoke. I don't plan to smoke when i'm older either. All my friends smoke and they are addicted, I think it's stupid to be addicted at 15, but its there choice... Confused
You can't choose to be addicted. You will become addicted if you smoke, just like your friends. It is stupid, but it's not their choice . They started to smoke and with time they became addicted.

Yeah, thats true. If you don't quit, you will become addicted, and you won't even realise. Go on, try. Next time you're at a party, see if you can not smoke at all. Just see if you can do that.

what do you mean your a social smoker?

im sometimes a social smoker, iuno its jsut when your at party or somethign and you smoke then. But the rest of time you dont smoke, and you feel no need to smoke. Some of my freinds are adictted to smoking, i have been addicted to pot, i know what its liek to be adicted to smoke and i dont smoke now unless im very very very drunk and even then i tell my freinds not to let me. and before you all say "why drink in the frist place if you dotn wanna smoke" i enjoy drinking, i do not enjoy smoking anymore and when i get drunk i sometimes falls back into the habit of wanting to smoke, i know cigarettes are different from dope but i dont wanna get hooked on either ever again

say for example you go weeks before the next party and then you smoke wouldnt you feel sick and dizzy.

it's their choice to smoke enough to become an addict
and it really is, I smoke, but no where close enoug to become an addict
I don't have the kind of money to start that addiction
it's like me and my friend smoked blacks yesterday, it was social
neither of us are addicted (though he just came off a week of non-stop pot smoking so he had to smoke a black to ease the craze until he's regular again
and yeah, teens who smoke 95% do it because of anti-smoking 4% do it because some one got them into it .9% other and .1% do it because they think it's cool
so quit saying, "smoking isn't cool", you're addressing .1% of the people and encouraging the other 95%

i was just speaking to a friend of mine about her daughter, well the daughter was suspended from school Friday, because she was standing outside with a girl who was smoking now this girl doesnt smoke but her mum and dad do and she was in the car with them and she stunk of smoke and the teacher came out and automatically accused this girl of smoking and because she smelt of it she got suspended. So amoking doesnt only effect the smokers it effects everyone around them.

that says nothing about smoking but everything on the administration's veiw on it and the government's veiw on it
and if it's really so bad being around some one that smokes then it was the daughter's responsibility to say, "well, I like this person enough to take the risk" or, "I dare not take the risk"

I think it's pretty stupid that people are suing tobacco companies because their getting cancer and stuff. They put warnings on the boxes, and they even make things to help people quit! If you're too lazy to pay like 5 dollars for niccotine patches and put some effort to quit then its your fault if you get cancer and die!

they also pay for anti-smoking commercials
it's a brilliant strategy
"we'll get The Truth to make tobacco look so stuck up and retarded and self ritious that the kids we don't turn pricks we'll turn into cigarette users"
and it works

and the government thinks tobacco companies aren't advertising on TV

The (American) government mandates that states have a certain part of their budget going toward anti-smoking campaigns, information on quitting, and so forth. But the states decide how they use that part of the busget and how much of that funding they use at all. Usually it's far under federal recommendation.
The reason tobacco companies fund anti-smoking campaigns--
-fool proof when it comes to lawsuits, it's corporate responsibility and because they take the responsibility to ensure that people are informed about the dangers of tobacco, they can't possibly lose a lawsuit over it.
-the MSA, an agreement between big tobacco and the American government prevents the tobacco industry from advertising in certain ways, especially to children. They can't sponsor certain events, and there are restictions on how tobacco products are distributed. Through these anti-smoking campaigns, their products still get visibility, and that is ALL you need to sell a product, especially when it's so well know within a culture already.

I never liked smoking, and it's weird cause i'm the only one in my family who thinks like that. The first time i tried it it was in the 4-th grade, almost choked lol.
Now i'm in college and everyone smokes almost no exception so the second hand smoke is there...

smoking companies aren't innocent

they manufacture billions of cigarrettes daily, knowing that people who are addicted to them can't stop

i love it how phillip morris is the #1 manufacture of cigarrettes overseas and in america, yet they're the ones with the strongest anti-smoking ad campaign

gotta love america

how are they not innocent?
how are they worse than McDonalds? (yes, fast food is addictive, hard to quit, and has worse health effects in America, where all the hippie stuff happens

honestly, they're a buisness, oh no, they aren't a buisness who's selling a product to make the world a better place....but that's not how a buisness works

tobacco is a brilliant buisness
they tell you smoking is bad
put out anti-smoking ads
and that's how they get people to smoke

they don't get kids to smoke because they advertise with a cartoon (c'mon, low budget, what part of BUISNESS isn't going through your head?
they get kids to smoke by paying for dillholes like The Truth to make anti-smoking look less cool
that doesn't make smoking look cool, but it's the whole Dragnet principal

drugs weren't given the thumbs-up okay until Dragnet's anti-drug propaganda was everywhere
same with smoking
brilliant buisness
boohoo, they don't babysit the customers, that says more about the customer though

well lets see...
i dont blame tobacco companies for cancer because the consumers have their own free will to buy it or not, but i think the whole idea of smoking is completely stupid. i mean, it doesnt matter how cool it makes you look, is it really wirth your life? is it worth getting some kind of disease and being miserable for the rest of your life?
in my opinion, its a selfish addiction, because you start for yourself, and you keep doing it most likely with no regard for those around you.
i mean, think about it. just how many smokers actually think about the second hand smoke they're passing to the person next to them. about... one in a million. no offense to those that are considerate, but most arent.

i understand what your saying it doesnt make you look cool or grown up, in fact if you keep smoking you'll loose your skin texture

I don't really find anything wrong with smoking as long as you're being polite about not smoking in front of other people. I smoked for the last three years and I was never addicted.

Quit last week for my girlfriend though.

A lot of the DARE programs and health science classes need to stfu about smoking. Yes, I know it's harmful, I get the point, don't give me a million fucking classes about it. Clearly, we're old enough to make our own decisions. If we wanna blow off our money for all eternity, let us. If we don't wanna, good for us. But if someone smokes, don't make a big deal about it. A lot of people do. It's their problem. The tobacco companies should most definately not be sued. It's the people's decision whether to do tobacco or not. It's their time to stop themselves. Not to blame it on something else, most specifically the company. I'm still just really pissed off at my health science class. You have to spend like 1/5 of a year watching movies every day about something to do with drugs and how it's bad for you. I get it!
