 | December 6th, 2007 at 12:35am I don't think the companies are at blame- I may question their morals against mine, but people are warned before they poison themselves so w/e.
I think smoking is moronic and retarded. Simple enough.
I'm sorry, but I do not offer sympathy to someone who smokes and wants to quit. I can help them and all, but I won't feel bad for them. No, I've never smoked and I never will, but you were brave enough to induce poison into your lungs, mouth, etc.- you're brave enough to stop. |

Yeah, it's pretty obvious you've never had a cigarette. |

If someone tries a cigarette and then one more,2 more etc and becomes addicted without knowing, then when he finally realises he wants to stop after a few years, it's not THAT easy because his mind and his body can't function anymore without nicotine, so even if you want to stop you need lots of self control and determination, not many people have or don't want to bother to 'endure'.. |

yes I understand that, but it can be done. So, I really just don't have sympathy for someone who does that. They tried it in the first place |

It's my own opinion.
I have a reason, I have a standing.
I never claimed to know what it's like to be addicted to nicotine- I have no clue what it's like. I never claimed to. What I did claim to understand is that I don't see the reason in poisoning yourself purposly. I do know what it's like to be offered a cigarette. And I understand why I said no.
Therefore, it's not ignorance |

It was ignorant of her to make assumptions about how the smoker's mind works or how easy it is to quit, when she obviously never had the chance to find out.
And in most cases, smokers are well aware of the risks. |

yep yep. agreed.
I know its stupid to smoke.. yeah... nobody has to tell me twice.. or even once.. but I really find it offensive when someone totally insults your life decision.. and basically decides your not a person (because they just don't care.. or offer any sympathy) because it's difficult to quit. Also.. It's not about being brave enough to quit. Anyone who says "I want to quit" and tries.. is brave enough to quit. It's just.. it really is SOO hard for some people. It's physically and mentally a rough trip to quit.
I dunno. dude. Smokers are easily offended for stupid reason. . I'll admit that. |

I can actually. She's talking about something she doesn't have a clue about. Besides, no one even asked to her to feel sympathetic towards someone trying to quit.
"Smokers are ignorant to the risks that they put themselves in."
1. Yes we do. It's hard not to with all the warnings about.
2. That makes no sense. It should be, "Smokers are not aware of the risks of smoking" or "Smokers are ignorant to the risks of smoking."
I'm sorry, I'm literate and sentences like that annoy me. |

Whatever gives them kicks, y'know?
I do think that there should be all the help to stop though. It wouldn't make sense if the medical profession asks someone to stop smoking without any help.

I'm going to have to ask you that you not put words in my mouth. I never once claimed that smokers ask me to feel sympathetic. Yah, I said I wasn't going to be, but the last time I checked we were all free to express opinions in here.
"sentences like that annoy me"
And I'd wish that you not be obnoxious to someone with a different opinion than your own for the sake of every person's sanity on the board. |

I dunno dude.. But I get really easily annoyed . . . in general.. and by people who constantly put down smokers.
I have to quit now though..Cause I just don't have the money to support my ciggy addiction.

You said something along the lines of 'I feel no sympathy towards smokers wanting to quit"
And I said, "No one asked you to"
Putting words in your mouth? I think not.
And as for my literacy statement, I apologise. I never actually insulted anyone over it. I merely corrected it.
Someone get this back on topic please |
