Apparently the Russians and Chinese have teamed up against the Americans for the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China I believe. According to a Russian olympian, they want to show that sports considered to be American sports, don't have to be completely American and that others can play and win sports such as swimming, track, basketball and such. Now this seems like a reasonable statement, considering it's kinda true, the Olympics are supposed to be about unity not Americanization. But, there is a line that has been crossed. They have gone so far as to share coaches, get other countries into their pact, and the Chinese have even taught the people to cheer for Russia if there are no Chinese competing in the event. Other counrties in the Olympic alliance agreed to stop America from winning the majority of medals include Azerbijain and Taiwan. Opinions people? |

zdf_jammin Geek Age: - Gender: - Posts: 432 | people are jealous of our talent , if your talking about the american wins, its just because we earned, enough said. and people should have the right to cheer on whoever they want, but 1-asking people to cheer for you or your friend is wrong and 2-to a big extent, the cheering doesnt have much to do with the athletes performance. i know personnaly that the cheers dont do much, because you dont hear it. but, when your best friend says, i really hope you win this, it goes further, but how many people are going to do taht to and olympic athlete with all the terrorist things and high security? |
kueibe Idiot Age: - Gender: - Posts: 597 | Anji: where did you hear that?? ridiculous, we don't hv to be taught by anyone, we will cheer for any one only if we think he/she is a great athlete, no matter what countries they are from. Don't think we are that stupid!! |
smithy_dll Geek Age: - Gender: - Posts: 350 | Quote I think that was proven when America failed to win Basketball and Baseball at the last Olympics (2004 in Athens). Swimming is hardly American, heck not even. America has some good swimmers, but they don't have the best. Neither are track sports, they existed long before the United States of America did. And as for the rest, do you have sources? |
calex1991 Geek Age: - Gender: - Posts: 137 | I'm not American OK. Your politics are pure fucky uppy but that doesn't mean your athletes can't be good. They can't help it. America is very competitive. If they want to win. TRAIN LIKE CRAZY! |
Pretty Like Drugs King For A Couple Of Days Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 2643 | well that's kinda stupid *feels embarrassed by own government*. the olympics and american politics are apples and oranges. if american athletes win then it's just a testament (sp?) to their dedication to training, their competitiveness, their athletic prowess etc. provided they're not on drugs, of course. i think this is taking it a little too far... |
folkin' around. King For A Couple Of Days Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 3243 | calex1991: That's a very mature way to say how american politics are, 'fucky uppy' |

eberneezer_egghead Falling In Love With The Board Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 5484 | I think that the Chinese government take these type of things far too seriously. There is more to life than training for sport events, like controlling the birth rate, and being able to feed the country? |
smithy_dll Geek Age: - Gender: - Posts: 350 | destiny_is_dead: I don't know what drugs you are on. I will now proove the summer olympics are 2008 the long way. The olympics happens every 4 years. However there are an olympics every 2 years alternating between summer and winter. 2006 is the commonwealth games/winter games in Canada 2012 was just announced summer games in London 2012-4 = 2006+2 = 2008 Therefore the next olympics summer are in 2008. So dude, please know the facts before replying in the future, and don't make me reference sources. |

Spiral Out..Keep Going.. Jackass Age: - Gender: - Posts: 1986 | smithy_dll: Let me put it another way...you might understand... OK the Summer Olympics happen every 4 years and the Winter Olympics happen every 4 years But on alternating even years...i.e. on every even numbered year there will be an Olympics of some sort... Let's take the summer olympics - they occurred in 2000 in Sydney, Australia 4 years on, in 2004 they took place in Athens, Greece They will next occur in 2008 And then 2012 - the London Olympics Now for the Winter Olympics - they last occurred in 2002 in Salt Lake City, USA 4 years on, in 2006 they will take place in China Therefore the summer olympics will be occuring in 2006 I know my facts - it is you who seem to not know them |
smithy_dll Geek Age: - Gender: - Posts: 350 | you mixed up summer and winter The two seasons are very different to one another. In fact I will now get references from the IOC I was wrong about 2006 winter olympics in canada, thats 2010, and I'm sorry for that, incase you forget Summer 2000 - Sydney 2000 + 4 = 2004 - Athens 2000 + 4 + 4 = 2008 - Bejing 2000 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 2010 - London Winter 2006 - Torino http://www.olympic.org/uk/games/torino/index_uk.asp 2010 - Vancouver Canda - http://www.olympic.org/uk/games/vancouver/index_uk.asp Now lets see, 2006 is a winter olympics, oops, now lets check again Bejing - 2008, so therefore, I was right about what I was arguing despite being wrong about when Canada had the winter olympics next, the fact of the matter is I still got the date and place of the next Summer olympics correct. And it is you who cannot add 4 onto 2004 to make 2008 (4 + 4 = , 4 + 4 certainly does not equal 6 in this corner of the universe. |
Kitti Falling In Love With The Board Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 5688 | destiny_is_dead:you mean winter olympics are in 06... although i assume you mis...typed there.... ppl here seem to need ppl to be VERY clear about what they mean... |
