Annnnd the reason I was away for so long is that myself and Keith had a little competition. We stayed up as long as we could drinking ourselves into a state of oblivion annnnd then 49 hours later it hit me that I had a dinner to go to with the family later that night. I showed up drunk, I was rambling about absolute SHIT, I got cranky, mither got cranky, I slept throughout most of the night and yeah. Keith won the comp I think. It depends on whether he fell asleep before or after I did.

So me and my sister were watchin Tattoo Stories on Fuse the other day... and durring a comercial break. we get to thinking.. That HIM should be on the show... we begin discusing the matter... when after the comercial break... and intro sign pops up "VILLE - HIM" we screamed and high fived eachother .

Do you really believe that?
- "Yes I do. Of course you can see that he's not normal, but that has to do with his upbringing. He's been in the music business since he was five years old and a super celebrity in a country like USA - of course you get disturbed! However I still believe he's innocent, Im completely on his side. He openly told about how his dad abused him during his childhood. Its the classic psychological history about how he never had time to grow up normally. He had to be innocent and professional at seven years of age, which is completely insane. When Ville, guitarist Linde, bassist Migé, keyboardist Burton and drummer Gas now made their fifth stop in the studio its about poppier sounds. The candidates for single-releases are many.
-"I like the positive negativety on this album. The thought was to get a stadium sound, with the singing and the message closely linked together. Neil Young's song "Heart Of Gold" meets U2. What we strived for was experimenting in the likes of U2, a certian sound structure. Ear candy, so to say. The songs should be straight and punky, but super melodious."

I was walking alongside Melrose Avenue when a gayguy of the more feminine kind introduced himself and asked if I wanted to do a free HIVtest. Ten seconds after saying no I changed my mind and followed him to a van that was parked on a sidestreet. An HIV clinic for homosexuals had a campaign on the popular shopping street. One pinprick later I got to answer a lot of questions about my sex life. "Are you practising safe sex?" "Do you have anal sex?" "Have you ever had group sex?"
I totally played the roll of a proud homosexual man (What don't you do for a free HIVtest?). Twenty minutes later I got the negative test result in my hand and was allowed to continue shopping for clothes.

-"I'm thinking of Migé, our bassist. He walked bare foot through the worst crackparks in Zürich, where there are used syringes on the ground. I even said to him, "I can buy you a pair of fucking sandals!" He was never infected, but it made me very paranoid. Its nothing that I think about, but when someone start to talk about it I always reason that its better to get tested, just in case."
How can you state that you dont think about it after what you just told me?
- "When you think about the fact that you change saliva with singers from other bands via the microphone, then you think about it. You never know. it might have been some HIV positive musician who hit himself in the head with the mic and started bleeding. It's always good to go and get a test. Not so much for my own good, but for the ones close to me. It wouldnt be so much fun spreading something like that on."
Are you a person who cares alot about the people around you?
-"I do care, extremely. Its the only thing in the world that matters. If you're self centered and cut the world out, then you're really in hell. If you are self centered you dont even know it, thats the worst thing. And you miss out on so many wonderful things."
You seem alot more happy than when we met two years ago.
-"I'm always happy, Im in a good place. I am pissed off at many tings and tend to be melancholic. Im rather happy in my gloominess than gloomy in my happiness."
Scars that screams out their anxiety was a normal occuring sight at the camping of Hultsfredfestival just before HIM's gig last year. Teenagers who didnt care to hide the tracks of their desperate actions. They rolled up their sleeves to be a part of a kind of unspoken manifestation for pain. A lot of the young people today aren't feeling too well; a sign of the time is that its no longer tabu to show that you're suffering from depression. You dont automatically become a freak if you cause yourself pain, in some circles its even considered something "cool".
How does it feel to be the unreachable dream love for fourteen year old girls who cut themselves?
-"They still do that? Oh my God! I have done the same myself a few times, you cant see the scars anymore though", says Ville and looks at his right arm. "When you're verbally and emotionally can't handle the first meeting with existential pain its easily done that you numb it with physical pain.
Thats were it comes from. Its not about seeking attention. When your brain, so to say, grows you realise that there are so many more colours, opinions, people and smells than you could ever imagine that it gets unbearable. Its easily done and young people who don't have the wisdom that comes with age resort to primitive methods. I consider it to be completely normal and have gone through that phase when you think "Everyone will cry when I am dead". Nietzsche wrote "The thought of suicide is a huge comfort, with its help you can get through many hard nights."
But how does it feel for you personally to be an icon and role model for these lost souls?
-"It's something good, right? If the music can have a cleansing effect its positive. I have a brother who's seven years younger than me, and I have seen him do the things I did. The most terrible thing is that for kids with that kind of problems, the availability to drugs has increased dramatically since you and I were young. All the stories I hear about twelve yearolds who's been offered methamphetamine and got stuck... Its not good at all when you're growing up, you should wait atleast until your 18 - 20 or until you're grown enough to handle the serotonin halt in your brain. Its a very hard and brutal world the kids of today live in, I'm worried for them. What HIM does is like a ongoing Live 8 gala. We help ourselves with the music and today we're emotionally stronger. For every song we write, we find another piece of the puzzle. That's how I feel and even if I can't speak for the others I think they'd agree. In the best case scenario we can export that feeling and the kids can import it, it would be fantastic. We don't offer any solutions, but if we through the music can relieve their pain- great. You have to confront your fears."
