Labeling anyone is wrong, it's even more wrong if that person labels themself. The world has lost originality and all the young people whose minds are supposed to be blooming with new and creative ideas now follow everyone else and stick a barcode on their forheads. We are here to make a difference. And what are we doing? The complete opposite. I wish people would just grow up and start appreciating life sincerely.

can some please explian what EMO actually is i thought that it was soemone who was depressed with life all the time and cut themselves, that was until i had thid conversation with my son the other day, he says that there is a bit of EMO in everyone, and that EMO is just a label for kids who are sad? I thought EMO meant emotional am i wrong?

I always took it to mean "Emotion hardcore", which is a genre of music, and a whole load of people just decided to dress a certain way and act a certain way, to fit in with this genre of music.

Cause, not everyone who is depressed and cuts themselves are emo, thats just bullshit.

Oh wonderful, lets all promote labels and social cliques. Chavs don't exist, along with punks, preps, goths, ect. Anyone who goes on and on about their label can be called an Idiot, I know plenty of those.

Ah come on, it's only a little fun. The pure anger on a chav's face when called a chav. You don't see comedy like that on TV

OPh, yeah, sorry, I wrote it, but didn't wasn't thinking about what I was writing.

To the person that said that about the Anti Emo crew or whatever... well, that stupid, and I've had it happen to me as well. These guys, whenever they saw me, would call out shit, and basically try and stamp out any trace of individuality they saw in me. I don't go near them now, they are a lot bigger than me, they are ugly, and they scare me.

But, they said something about "we are the anti-goth association" a few times. But, they didn't, and still don't understand what a goth is. I'm not, and I never was, just they used that word as an insult, and to describe anyone a little different, like anyone into heavier music, or music that wasn't cool at the time.

Must I re-iterate????????

IT's so EASY for people to blame their insecurities, and pain on a band, or someone on a forum that makes a VALID POINT...........

I Hate Labels.......EMO......Fuck That....ALL good music appeals to some sort of "EMOTION" or "FEELING"

or else you wouldn't fucking relate..........Hell ,NIN has some real Emotional Issues in it....and I wouldn't label

it EMO........as does BLS, SABBATH,QUEEN, METALLICA,Aerosmith, DREAM THEATER,LED ZEP, ........Fuck, name a

band, I'll name an emotion it brings out in me.......SO YEAH I AM A FUCKING "EMO"....I hate that fucking

word.........and NO I don't dress in Black, and Mope around ALL the time.....I do have some Depressive

days, and others when I am on top of the Goddamnned world.........the good comes with the bad......

SOME people actually FEEL thigs more intensely than others.....this IS a liability in "SOCIETY".......

who loves the followers with pink floyd cardboard faces............remember those????

So...the sensitive tend to build walls, and keep people at a fucking distance because MOST have been burned

and damaged by "SOCIETY".......numerous times............

I'd rather FEEL than be UNCOMFORTABLY NUMB.........and take my Issues out in words....than park a bullet

in my head......and the music heals wounds, and covers cuts.........

Of the ones not afraid to show some EMOTION.........

"The Artists and Bleeding Hearts"......PF

Try These on for size......BLACK SABBATH....Paranoid
OZZY.......Goodbye to Romance
Queen......Show must go on
Procol Harum....Whiter Shade of Pale
BEATLES......In MY LIFE
John Lennon.....IMAGINE, Working class Hero
DOORS.......The End, Crystal Ship
GUNS......Estranged, NR....COMA
Are any of thse what you would consider "EMO?"

How Bout METALLICA.....FADE TO BLACK, The Unforgiven......

and Pink Floyd

"Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
moved from side to side
Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
Up and Down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words"

Label Me Emotional ......If You Must.....and I'll Label YOU!

Hey but emos are different. Seriously. I used to try to vouch for the fact that people who look like emos aren't always emos but then I realised I was being a hypocrite. Seriously, every single person who looks like an emo that I know is depressed and every single person that I know who is depressed looks like an emo. Hmm. I wish we weren't the only stereotype that actualy works but we are. And that fucking sucks.

every person you know that is depressed looks like an emo, but that is so not the truth with every person that is depressed. Just because they are the only ones you know of doesn't mean all of them are!

Plus, a lot of people don't actually go around telling everyone they are depressed. So, there would be a few people that you know that are depressed, just you don't know it.

The typicle symptoms of depression include:

Persistant feeling of unhappiness, or un charcateristic moodness and irritabbility,

losing interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, whcih may present as complaints of boredom

losing appetite and weight (altough some young people may confort eat)

difficulty sleeping, or somtimes staying in bed well into the day

tiredness, lack of energy and loss of motivator alternatively feeling anxious or uptight.

difficulty concentrating or in making desicions

feeling baf, worthless or guilty, or generaly be self critical and salf blaming

negative and pessimistic thoughts

preoccupation with dark and gloomy themes and thoughts of death or suicide.

also some people can have ideas of grangour(sp) i.e have ideas that he/she will become the next prime minister or president. They can even spend excessive amounts of money and be exseccivly happy all the time. And not evryone who looks depressed is depressed, and not everyone who looks emo is depressed, and not evryone who looks sad is depressed. depression shows itself in many many differant ways, all because you dress in black all the time doesnt make you depressed, it just shows that you want to dress that way.

Okay I take your point. I can like somehow tell when someone is depressed and I think I've met two people who AREN'T emos and feel a lot of negative emotions. I take your point. Right.

sterotyping? well, dicriminating against other people just because they fit a certain sterotype is ignorant and rude. people can be whatever they want to be and listen to whatever music they want to listen to and wear the clothes they want to wear, etc. i hate it when people say things like "emos suck" or "preps are stupid." not everyone fitting those sterotypes is exactly the same.

...i suck at explaining things....

Yeah of course i should, they are nothing but low life thiefes who see somthing some has got get jelous and then steal it, well i hope they fall of the bike in front of a car.

Personally, i think most stereotypes don't even really exist. Most of the people that call themselves "goth" have most likely never even heard a goth song.
People are calling themselves Punks, Goths, Metalheads etc but they are genres of music. People can't be genres of music.
If people get forced into catagories because of the music they listen to, it should at least be done right... that way society may not crumble so soon. (May be a bit overdramatic but still..)

I'm somewhat prep/punk/emo. I like to mix it up. I love putting outfits together in the morning, it gives me a sense of control. Shopping does too but anyway, people think that just because I like different stuff I'm a poser. So what if I like Nirvana and I am wearing pink or something. Its not a big deal. You don't have to dress to the type of music you like. I mean if I did I would be wearing flannel shirts and ripped jeans, you know grunge type things. Or with Green Day they would expect me to dress like them.

i get called emo and it cheeses me off a tad because i'm not, but i guess i bring it on myself with the skinny fit jeans. to be fair though i've worn them for like 5 years. Confused and had to buy them from some remote little stall, they weren't just all around topshop and all that shebang. not that i don't love highstreet stores as well Very Happy. but anyway, i'm rambling, and to be honest i don't really care what i get called by my friends because they just like to wind me up, i never get trouble from people in the street from how i look. i guess because i blend in fairly well and don't make much of an effort to stand out. Confused
