discrimination as in the punk stereotype really gets on my freakin nerves...its when you hear the word Punk, as in a person. you first get the image of an alcoholic chunky guy getting thrown out of his english class, with torn jeans and a leather jacket with spikes. then he takes a lighter and lights his cigarette, goes to a junkyard and gets wasted. its stupid..not all punks are like that and somebody wrote a poem like that about me. it really pissed me off cause i don't drink, i don't smoke and i don't do drugs. and i throw away my broken or torn things. so yeah. but i don't mind spikes or ties...and really...its just stupid how people just can't get along.

I absolutely hate labels! I hate them with a passion. And rock has the most labels out of anyother genre of music. I'm sick of people saying "Is this punk?" or "That's not punk!"

Does it matter. Rock and Roll needs to get over the labels stick to the music.

I assume you're human. You type. You're even saying things I don't need drugs or delirium to read.
I label you as "human." Are you angry I've labelled you?
I'm betting you have a nationality too.
That nationality is another label.
Your gender, that's another label.
Your name. Your username. Your occupation.
All words. Whether you have something, are doing something, are something, you are taking on labels that describe it or you.

We can't do away with labels.
How would we know what kind of soup we are eating, where we are going, or where we are? How would we tell what we're doing?

We need labels. We need stereotypes. They might not be totally accurate, but it's how we define and understand the world and people around us.

The issue is not the labels themselves. It's what we do with the labels. That's personal responsibility.

Sorry...I feel soo stupid...but what is a chav?

Hannah Is So Lost:
Chav:

Council
Housing
And
Violent

Very Happy

are you saying that everyone on a council housing eastate is violent?
oh course not. I'm just saying that, that was the definition of Chav that i heard.

a chav is some one who wears his tracksuit tucked in his socks, and wears a cap backwards, and wears Burburry!! And says "init" or "wotever"

Don't forget the knackered Reeboks Laughing

and dont forget the stolen mobile phone.

Hehe "chav" boys (as chavvie as they get in Australia . . . with their pink t shirts and their wannabe skater pants and their hiphop . . .) stole my mobile last year . . . they stole two of them. My picture phone and, when I brought my old phone to school, that one, too. Wow. Losers. DON'T TRUST DANIEL LUCUNI OR JUSTIN SKURRIE. ASSHOLES

We don't really have too many chavs around here, we get a lot of knackers though, I think they're basically the same thing only knackers steal gates instead of mobiles...

im one of those 'dont label me if you like the way your face looks' people, and i dont do it to other people. what really bothers me is when people start labbelling themselves, which dont make much sense sometimes coz a lot of labels are insults, eg chavs

lables are necesarry and people don't see that
the less you stereotype the more stereotypical people become, which is worse: you being offended because you were labled, or no one being original?

exactly, Americans decide it's more important how they feel

It's impossible to do anything without labeling something. We're labeled as people. Im labeled as a girl. Labels help us to understand things. Laguages are systems of Labels used to indentify objects. Discrimination and Labeling are totally different.

Tell me something about that...the whole school's now ignoring me because I fell in love with a guy no one likes because he doesn't have the money to buy expensive clothes. It's kinda hilarious, the reasons are just too stupid, but it too hurts.

Yeah, I label, and I don't really care. I call people chavs, emos, rockers... it just doesn't bother me. It doesn't mean I don't want to get to know them, it doesn't mean I yell abuse at them.

But they're all different. I have friends that are so incredibly different. They all fit these stereotypes in a way, but they're all individual.

I'm 'potho'; Punk, gothic, and emo.
I skateboard and play in a punk rock band, I wear chains and combat boots with trenchcoats, and I have crazy hair colors and a lot of scars. My friends made the label up Rolling Eyes
I dunno...I think we 'freaks' don't like the 'preps' because either they have everything we want, or they constantly make our lives a living hell Dno

omgno you just labeled a soup can, why would you do that?

because labels a part of a functional society. Languages are a system of labels. You label EVERYDAY
It's unavoidable and is only as degrading as you make it.
