Peter Petrelli King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 4161 | At my school, homework isn't counted towards our final grade, unless it's coursework; as most of it is note taking for revision. Actually, in photography, we don't even do a final exam, it's all coursework... *shutting up* *moves back to the topic* I dyed my black recently. I've always wanted black hair. It suits me; loads of people think I should keep it. Where as some are enjoying yelling 'goth', and 'greebo' at me. ![]() |

thisiscrap Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 6 | xD hahahah so 48% of the girl on earth are sluts? If i dress like an emo kid i am not trying to be the sterotypical emo girl. Fitting a sterotype is more then looks, it is also an attitude and i dont behave emo so why should i be called one? |

SugarGreen King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 3369 | People are so afraid of stereotyping that they are quick to stereotype people with being stereotypers! |
spill_no_sick Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 31 Gender: - Posts: 8588 | amberneedshelp: okay, but I'm talking about the people who purpously fit a stereotype if you have black hair and a depressing demeanor that's okay, you're just being yourself but if you wear tight pants, have greasy. messy hair with a big black highlighted hairstrand in front of one eye, and a MCR shirt on...you fit a stereotype |

You can't just tell a person by how well their pants fit ![]() Some people fit stereotypes. That is how stereotypes exist, and come into being. Because a lot of people like that music and dress that way and by a majority being like that it becomes established as a 'scene' or whatever. |
Peter Petrelli King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 4161 | In psychology class at the moment, we're talking a lot about stereotypes. People generally stereotype others so they feel themselves that they have an identity - like an 'us and them' attitude. Labels are useful, but not the ultimate. I know plenty of people who could be called 'emo', and they don't go around talking about suicide and what not. I also know a guy who could be called a typical 'chav', but he's a super sweet person, and is awesome to talk to. I think that stereotyping becomes less significant as you get older... well, more mature. Most people stop choosing friends by stereotypes by the time they're about 18; that's to say, I have a wide range of friends. If you discriminate against people actively, then you're a 'cognitive miser', meaning that you don't bother getting to know people before you judge them. And that's the input from my psych class done with. ![]() |

thisiscrap Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 6 | spill_no_sick: What if you wear tight pants have greasy, messy hair with a big black highlighted hairstrand infront of one eye and wear a MCR shirt AND you are just being yourself? Maybe your apperance fits the sterotype and your attitude doesn't? BTW: what lable has tight pants, have greasy. messy hair with a big black highlighted hairstrand in front of one eye, and a MCR shirt on? I think i should feel offended for being worngly judged =( |
bkwrm37[Duckie!!] Geek ![]() Age: 31 Gender: Female Posts: 200 | I've been laughed at because I'm 'different'. Al I am is me. I won't change for anyone BUT me. I've been called punk, goth, loser, nerd, bitch, and probably any other name you can think of. All I am is me. People use labels to hurt. Labels are basically an insult, and I don't use them. I'm me, you're you. I see people as THEMSELVES, not as some stupid label. Either I like you or I don't, but not just because of what people call you. I judge you based on personality alone. That's all I have to say. |
thisiscrap Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 6 | I think lables are for people who fit a sterotype with their looks AND attitudes. If they look like a punk and are rebels then they can be called Punks BUT only if that is who they see themself as. I may look emo and peopel may think i act emo but i personally don't see myself as an emo person. I see myself as a cool, upbeat girl. |
spaz_mango Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 24 | Stereotypes and labels just help in catagorising people but this may also mislead people because we all have different definitions of emos and punks etc so the whole system of labels isnt accurate and therefore doesnt work. Its when you get more specific labelling that can actually describe a person. If you call someone a rebel then your merely making an observation on their attitudes and behaviour which is more personal than thier appearence |

worn-out astronaut. Had A Life Before GSB ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 28177 ![]() ![]() | I have problems with labels. I hate when some people call me a punk when I wear my Green Day t-shirt cause if Green Day is the harcorest punk anyone can thought of thats lame. But I dislike when people call me a poser cause of that same shirt and they dont even know what else do I listen to. |
+_Pledged_+ Idiot ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 959 | Society needs someone to blame for everything that goes wrong. In this era, it just so happens to be teenagers. Teenagers are presented as hideous, old-people-bashing beasts, are they not? I mean, when was the last time you saw "Teenager helps old lady accross road!" In the paper? Exactly. It's more like "Teenager mugs old woman on road". Adult's can't blame theselves for what's happening...cos they would be...well...blaming themselves. We were talking about this in my English class, and it brought to my attention that society needs a scape goat, and they chose teenagers, cos they are the ones that have no real voice. Think about it. A person is seen as being able to take responsibility and go to jail for their actions at the age 11. But we're not allowed to vote, and have a voice, until we're 17. Britain is said to have the worst teenage violence in Europe. In Britain, you are held responsible at 11. In places like Italy [i think its italy...] the age is 18! Ours is the lowest in Europe. And when they made these figures, they included everything petty; everytime the police was called. This could be when two 11 year olds have a fight on the way home from school. Neighbours panic, call the police, and it's over by the time the police get there, and it caused no harm to anyone, but it still goes down as violence. Have teenagers changed _that_ much in the past few era's? 60's = mods and rockers 70's = punks and hippies 80's = bikers But now, we have seperated off into many groups, and many different styles, so it's harder for the Media to pick a certain set of people; so they say teenagers in general. Not fair, isit? ;_; [I know that this has nothing to do with the topic, but when I made a thread about it I was sent here ¬_¬] |
