You're many times more likely to succeed in the music biz if your act's name is longer than 7 letters. Even stranger, someone with too much time on their hands took a random sample of band names in the US. They looked at 2,000 acts with a one-word name and 2,000 with a name of two words. They found that, on average, the two-word bands sold three times as many records as those with a one-word name.
my dad's band are called the machines. but as they were due on stage for the last gig all the lights went off cos some brain donor used an extension lead they were told not to use. it blew up. so they were called the lightness for that gig. i've got mp3s of it if anyone's interested. which i doubt...

Those are interesting statistics.
My friends and I decided that if we ever start a band we'll call it Manic Depressive Pancake Batter. That was kind of an inside joke from when we were calling into radio stations requesting songs. We made up bands and songs. Then we made up people to give shout outs to. ^_^
