You obviously don't understand what I'm saying. I don't mean they're forcing us to have sex or whatever you're thinking. What I mean is, they put out a law saying you can only have sex at a certain age but it's stupid to have different ages requirements for different sexualities. I didn't mean they were literally forcing them.

They don't have different sex ages for different sexualities. Im not even sure if the law considers lesbian sex to actually be sex, and sodomy is illegal at any age.

Did you not read the first post for this discussion? The person said that where they live that straight people and lesbians are allowed to have sex at 16. Gay people aren't allowed until they're adults, meaning 18. And I don't believe sodomy is illegal here.
Sodomy isn't illegal in most places now. I think it was ridiculous to make gays wait until they're 18 because that; in my opinion, is discrimination.
Going back to the age, I think that the legal age is okay at 16 but maybe it should be lowered to 15. I know loads of people who have had underage sex, I am still a virgin and I'm very nearly at the age of consent. But I think that if you are responsible enough 15 should be allowed. I still think that 14 is a bit young, but in my opinion I think there is a larger gap between 14-15 rather than 13-14 because you gain more of an understanding.

15?? right for example what if a young girl looks 15 but is really only 12? and a man then has sex with her? i think the age 16 is to low, you cant drink until you are 18 (or not suppose to anyway) many many children look older than 15 but are really younger, and for homosexual intercourse i think it should be 18 for everyone

These legal sex laws are usually only used in multiple convictions if a teenager is charged and to be sure they go to jail, laywers use multiple charges instead of one. It's just a percaution. Almost NOBODY ever follows them. They are rarely enforced, and unless you're being tried, they are utterly useless.

There is nothing wrong with a man having sex with a 12 year old. If she wants it then OK, good for her.

But what could be done is have like...ID shown if you want to buy contraceptive stuff. Like when people buy alchohol. So if you go to planned parenthood, they'll be like "I'm sorry miss, but I'll need to see some ID". Or at Walgreens if you want condoms or spermicide.
Does this sound too stupid?
Here, here Shruti. But let's think a little differently from our points of view. Both of us come from third world countries and I'm sure in developing countries that just might work, but for Southern Asia, there is no way something like that will get enforced. The black markets will end up getting bigger meaning that cheaper versions of the pharmecutical stuff will wonder around and that is possibly a public health concern. Personally, in developing countries, I see no way to prevent underage sex.

Yeah, I agree. With the whole 18 year old thing. But here you have to be 21+ to drink.

Unfortunately, I think you're right about the whole 3rd world country thing and the black market. Here in the USA, it might work. I don't know. Everything seems preventable these days, like rules and such.

I agree with you! Teens are so irresponsible these days. They're making the rest of us look stupid and irresponsible.

Yes, that is true. Especially now since there's been an exponential increase in condom ads since India has the highest rate of AIDS transmission. And they don't really ask for IDs for anything except for a school ID or a bus pass.
The other problem with it is stuff that happens in the US and UK. People get older kids to buy it for them or just take their parents' stuff.

It doesn't sound stupid, but I don't agree.
If kids have to show ID and aren't old enough then they'll just have unprotected sex.
They need to be able to be protected regardless of age.
There is nothing wrong with a man having sex with a 12 year old. If she wants it then OK, good for her.
A 12 year old child can't even comprehend what sex is, and pedophiles can easily manipulate children into thinking they want something like sex by making them think it makes them more mature and grown up. It is in no way, shape or form ok for an older man to take advantage of a child in such a way.

Why would you ever want to limit the availability of protection? Those are things that people should have easy access to. Making them hard to get won't stop underage sex, but it would definitely make the teenage pregnancy rate go sky high. It wouldn't help control STD's any either.

I'm really sorry but that's the worst suggestion I've heard.
They'll be doing it regardless, and by doing that, it would make it very unsafe.
I mean, there'll be some people who will be like "Oh, I have to use contraception, but I can't because I'm underage, oh well, I won't use it", but that's a small amount of people.
