NeoSteph Basket Case ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 16494 ![]() ![]() | Fade2Black: in the french case, it was to do with safety and such, they also thought that soem groups would be prejudice towards others and that by allowing objects that make you stand out, it might of cuased segregation between the different religious groups. One of the main reasons that British schools have uniform, is because it decreases bullying. |
BehindBlueEyes Jackass ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 1744 | NeoSteph: good point, its real bulshit if you bully somene over their religion. |

Nine_Inch_Nails Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 8334 | The good thing about Wiccan is that not many people know that the pentagram is our symbol. Everyone just thinks it's a random pretty thing, so if that had a religious cramp down at my school, I'd be okay ![]() |

Faith Addict ![]() Age: 39 Gender: Female Posts: 11507 | In one of my college classes one guy screamed out "Jews should all fucking die!" There were 2 people in the class that are of Jewish descent - me and my friend Kari. Concidering that the guy was African-American, you know what we could have said in reply, but we didn't. Nobody did, thank God. There was just a fight about him not having a right to say that. I'm not saying this as an argument, I just thought it was kinda interesting. The reason why majorities suffer lately from too much political correctness, is simply that the minorities have been discriminated for so long, that now it's sort of the time for a payback. As for affermative action...well...In one college they had a plan to get 10 White and 10 non-White students to enter the college on the basis of the entrance test. So it happened, but there were 2 White kids that had better results of the test than the African-Americans that were accepted into college. So, they sued the college for descimination on the basis of skin color, and of course, won. But, of course, that's what conciders law. In everyday life, more and more often we go too far with political correctness. In ideal, we should all respect each other, but how often is anything ideal? |
Terminal Preppie Geek ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 457 | Fade2Black: Fade2Black: Apperantly people like learning about other religions, you go to school to learn. So why take away student's chances to learn? Kids should be taught not to discriminate against other religions instead of schools avoiding the topic altogether. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes down to religion, it's all about what you or your family chooses to belive in. School is supposed to prepare you for the future, well in the future people WILL go to work wearing crosses and wearing that star of David thing, if you've never encountered these things how will you know how to react, how to see a person, knowing their religion. Kids should know that although your religious beliefs are a lifestyle, they do not always affect how you act, and they should know that just because you found out what religion they are from doesn't mean they will change in any way. I'm not implying that schools should add biblical studies to their curriculum.. just that, as with race, they should learn not to discriminate based on religion. They should also be taught that discrimination works both ways, not just whites against blacks or christians against muslims. we should already know this because we have.. or had more freedom. Right now, they are in the proccess of taking it away, what little we had left... so our children would not get the proper teachings about religion to live semi-comfortable lives. Religion plays a big role in people's lives.. school takes up 6-8 hours of your day.. does this mean we cannot worship whom we wish during these 6-8 hours? |
Nine_Inch_Nails Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 8334 | Fade2Black: Hey, sorry I took so long to reply, my mum made me get off the computer last night ![]() Anyway. The great thing about Wicca is that there's three main rules [1st: Wiccan Rede - An' Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will, which means do what you want as long you harm nothing or no one, 2nd: You cannot affect anyone's free will and 3rd: religious tolerance] but apart from them you sort of...base you own version of it around that. People normally do this by starting their own Book Of Shadows. You get given the basics obviously [like reincarnation] and from them you just work out what you yourself think and believe. We do have our own festivals, only ours are called Samhain [Halloween] which is also our New Year, Yule [Christmas, but ours is on the 21st normally] etc etc. We have 8 main festivals a year. We also do special rituals on the full moon. If we want new beginning however, we do them on the new moon. A lot of people think that Wicca is just about magick and so on. It isn't. Sure we do spellwork and the like. I've recently started learning the Tarot...so it's all good! If you wanna know anything else, just ask ![]() Here's a couple of websites. http://www.witchway.net/ and http://www.avalonia.co.uk/book_of_shadows/index.htm ![]() |
