Is it just me, or has there been this huge surge in interest of politics after American Idiot?

I mean, kids who didn't give a shit about what was going on in the world suddenly started hating Bush and his government.

I have two points to make about this.

1. This would be good thing if these people actually decided to find out what the hell they were talking about. But now we just have all these kids going 'OmGZ!!111one BuSh SUxS!!!!'

2. A lot of people and magaZines are acting like it's the first political album ever made and is a huge phenomenon.

to everyone but the intelligent people reading this- it's not.

Bands like Rage Against The Machine and System of a Down have been making albums like this for years. And now people are acting like American Idiot is a beacon of hope or something.

System of a Down used to have a good political voice, now they're on the anti-Bush bandwagon (though the people on it say they're strictly anti-bandwagon...what retards)
I liked Rage Against the Machine

and yeah, you have Kanye West (dropout) Billie Joe (high school dropout), and Eminem (middle school dropout) acting all politically intelligent and it's just a way to sell albums

but it works, they all have huge record sales, no matter how much talent they sacrafice in the process

Well, for every 1,000 'OmGZ!!111one BuSh SUxS!!!!' kids, there are always going to be a few who go on to become genuinely interesed in politics. And that can only be a good thing.

Magazines are only hyping up American Idiot, because its more recent and up-to-date than the ohter albums/artists mentioned, and seeing as Green Day are the 'in' thing at the moment, it will sell them more issues.

I'm about to spend the next 5 years of my life studying european politics, i've already spent the last two studying British politics and i can't tell yuo how annoying it is, to have some kid think they know alot about the big P.

I think it's great when kids and teens get interested in politics but there's a difference between making people aware of politics and making people aware of your own personal views. People need to realise there's alot more to the Bush administration than gay rights and the Iraq War.

Bush isn't a 'dumbass'...come on, to get where he is today you need to be very intelligent.

thank you
I'm just regergatating propaganda but I just said it differently

Bush may be bad with our money, but it's not in any major threat and that doesn't matter when we're in war

not that this has too much to do with the discussion at hand, but the Actionslacks wrote this song called "This Damn Nation" that deals a little with politics and such...im not gonna type up the lyrics, but check it out, on an observational level its pretty interesting.

Actually, I'll have to disagree with you there. Albums such as MeZmeriZe and HynotiZe (both by System of a Down- oh and I apologise for the capital 'Z's- my keyboard's fucked) both came out this year- they're very strongly political. More so than American Idiot. though you have a point, Green Day is one of the biggest bands in the world right now.
I think the reason Green Day is being so hyped up is because it's so much more media friendly, not because it's more recent.
Still, it comes down to the same thing.

I don't really care about political music...I s'pose it's cool that kids are actually getting interested in politics, but c'mon. I got interested in politics because I wanted to, not cuz Billie Joe said to. I was not really certain if I liked what the administration was doing, began to read the newspaper, read Al Franken, and there you be!

all it really did was get some 5th and 6th graders think they know everything and make them look stupid by prancing around like little pansies thinking bush sucks when they dont know a damned thing.
