The Bible is only outdated in certain areas, like Leviticus et al., as mentioned above. Otherwise, it's your basic religious text, outlining a belief system and the behavior you have to follow to stay within its tenets. As long as Christianity doesn't mutate horribly, the Bible is not outdated. It's not actively in use by some people (a lot of people, really, but still a minority I believe), but it's certainly not outdated for Christianity as a whole, or for decent people as a whole.

Anyway, yeah...gay marriage...As long as it's got all the aspects and rights of marriage as it stands, fine. Call it something else, ya weirdos. I have no problem with "separate but equal" as long as they ARE equal.

not yet, but that still comes with the government seperating marriage from union rights ( wait?....marriage: Church, rights: law/state......why didn't we see it before!

yes
I think the government should seperate marriage from the rights you get for being a married citizen

you should be able to say, "I love this person, give me benefits" as opposed to saying, "I love this person, and depsite my religion I'll get married the Jewish/Christian way (which is the way athiests in this country have adopted as standard marriage) and the government will give me the rights later"

now, how about we split it up?
Christians/Jews talk about "restoring the sanctity of marriage" which should have been a big issue when it was adopted as the standard American marriage

we should split up the rights from the marriage, that way the religious people get their custom back, while everyone can still get crap from the government

now, I just suggested seperating marriage (religious, from the Church) from the government rights (government, as in the State

see where I'm going with this?
the whole setup was messed up to begin with
back when marriage was established the Jews said, "alright, as long as it's between a man and a woman we don't care what religion you are"
and now our government gave benifits to that, which wasn't fully Constitutional anyway

but instead of it staying religious, marriage just became a normal part of our culture....it's about as important as Barbie, Leave it to Beaver, and McDonalds

"Ward, the Beaver wants to get married." I'm sure that was an episode sometime.

So just so long as you're legally married (got a marriage license, yadda yadda) you get the benefits, to hell with the ceremony. Ceremonies are for those who actually, you know, care. I getcha.

This idea sounds like we're putting people in some kind of...union...like a, I dunno, a CIVIL union...

GASP!

not necesarrily the ceremony as much as the way it's all set up

I'm just saying, all you should have to do is say, "I love this person, let me have benefits!"

and that's that

I agree with him too, we should all have a toast to mark this mometous occasion.

I'm still not quite grasping the fact some people (christians mainly) refuse to call it a gay 'marriage', yet say a heterosexual couple of atheists got joined in a civil ceremony, nobody cares when call their ceremony getting 'married'. Yeah, i'm still hung up on that one.

Absolutely they should get the same rights. As for the children they adopt- wouldn't you rather be under the care of homosexual parents than in an adoption facility

because, the Jews made the rules a long time ago...and that's just what they said
but leave it up to the stereotypical white Christians to be offended for everyone else, and stick their foot in their mouth (along with every mouth of everyone else in their religion

hey you know who Jesus disagreed with? who his earthly enemies were? who were destroying the name and sanctity of his religion? who were always putting their foot in their mouths? who made the earth and the attitudes of everyone who lived on it worse?

that's right: THE STEREOTYPICAL PEOPLE AND LEADERS OF HIS OWN RELIGION

yeah, so when you think of Christians, don't think of the stereotypical, because they're like the rabbiis who sentenced Jesus to death

I think there is nothing wrong with it!!

If someone loves someone of the same sex, you can't help it, you can't control love. When he loves him to, then it is even better. Besides, they are the same people as us.

we can stop blank quoting, but debates are repetitive, you can't help it if people want to discuss the same thing over and over then they have the right to do it.

If your fed up with how the discussion is taking, then obviously you've evolved passed it, and it's time to move on to another discussion. But there are still people who havn'y debated all the aspects of this topics, and they deserve the right to do so.

MY TAKE ON THE ISSUE;

i don't really care

people should be able to do whatever the hell they want

ancestors created America so they could come here, and engage in their own beliefs and rituals without being punished for it..

yeah, it was the Jewish ritual that started marriage, then they said that they'll share their ritual with any heterosexual
but now people want them to share it with everyone because of how the government intruded on that ritual

it's not that the government is taking it away from some people, they're giving union to others in conjuntion with marriage, so I think that the government should just seperate the tradition from the union rights
