XD The only semi-rational reason I can come up with is that it sort of makes me feel like a "real" musician, and hence is quite fun and confidence-boosting to do. My first guitar, a decent-enough acoustic electric, is named Steven. Two reasons for the name: one, named after the brand (Esteban, which is Spanish for "Steve" or "Steven". ), and two, a good friend of mine who played guitar before me was named Steven. Then there's my family's keyboard, which I've quietly dubbed Freddie. This was after Freddie Mercury, the singer and pianist of Queen, who has had a quite profound influence on my own attempts at songwriting. I just got a new electric guitar, but hadn't thought of naming it yet until I saw this thread. I'm considering May, after Queen guitarist Brian May. (Yes, I have issues with Queen.) I would name it Billie, but he's more of an all-around frontman than a guitarist specifically. Or perhaps Jimi? Hmmm *immerses self in thought* My flutophone is named Juliet, after my fifth grade teacher. (I obtained it that school year, when our class all had to learn how to play the flutophone. It's a lot like a recorder, but the sound is a tad flute-like.) And if I ever get a bass, I'm so naming it Mike. After the bassist we all know and love, of course.  Edit: Skully.: I LOL'd at that one. Would you care to share the background story behind that? I have a feeling it's a rather interesting tale... |

'Cause, you know, Billie named his first guitar Blue, after its color, so I thought I'd do that with my bass since it's the only instrument I own. But now I wish I had given it a bloody name or just named it Strummer after Joe Strummer, or Entwistle after John Entwistle, since he was an f-ing great bassist. |
