And it stops shazz from sounding empty.
But it can be done (like the White Stripes do) without bass by tuning your guitar down and singing in a higher pitch of using a piano.
All are important.
It's like a chair.

You dont have to have a guitar [maybe if you want it to sound darker with just the bass and drums.]
And you dont have to have a bass because people consider it a "heavy" instrument.
Personally I think you need them all, but those are reasons why you dont have to have them. |

But in some other punk or something, I think tha bass is important, without it it would be all so boring...For me drums aren't much important, either the bass can do the beat. however, thay are all important. Guitar. I don't play guitar, I play drums, but the guitar makes the whole melody.
There are lots of great songs with just a voice and a guitar.
Actually, why isn't piano on there?
