Yea, to make a band you pretty much need all three...thats like part of the definition of bands. For an artist/singer/ though, I would say guitar. |

But really, it depends I'd rather have all of the above. Even though some bands can pull it off without drums, or guitar, or bass. But I mean, why not just have one of each --; |

2. singers who know when to back out of the spotlight [ie. when guitars are dueling]
3. drummers who only keep time and do nothing else
4. tapping bass lines o_O and/or bass solos |

I've seen some bands that are amazing on record, but when I see them live they're so boring. |

Without drums there's no structure.
But tbh, I think for a band to be good they need to be quality players not some little shits who've taught themselves a few power chords/grooves and now think they're the best thing since sliced bread. But also quality players are wasted if the songs aren't good, so you need good lyrics and music. |

 | February 3rd, 2007 at 12:36pm It depends on
A. One's own instrument of preference
B. The type of music
Someone said in the beginning of the topic that Billie didn't need drums in Good Riddance, well think about the song. Drums would kill the mood of the song, wouldn't it?
Without guitar there is no melody. Without bass there is no balance. Without drums there is no rhythm.
I think it was Dave Grohl who once said, "A band is only as good as its drummer." Maybe it was Taylor Hawkins, not all that sure. I'm not saying that drums are more important, but I think that the statement is very true. |

Having only two would be a duo group.
Having only one would be a solo performer.
You need all three for a band. |
