In British courts [I have NO idea about anywhere else, so I dunno if it applies to you or not] you have to swear on the Holy Bible, that you will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Do you think this is right?
I mean, if you're Christian fair enough..but I think you should be allowed to choose to swear upon whatever YOU find important..be it your mother life..your old Thomas the Tank Engine toys..whatever.

I always thought that too, you do in American Courts as well. What if you're not Christian? Then it means nothing to you, absolutely nothing. If I was a different faith, I would feel no obligation to tell the truth to something I don't believe in, but I'd tell the truth because Im not a liar. To alot of people it's just a book, and they'de be just as happy swearing on a copy of harry potter, It's one of those "traditions" the country has that is pretty meaningless.

I'm sure I've heard somewhere that you don't have to swear on the bible if you're not Christian. I might be wrong though...

They let you have a copy of the religious document of your choice, don't they?
I thought they did.

In any case, knowing me i'd make a great big fuss about having the swear on the Bible.

If you're a Christian, fine, do it. If you're not, then tell them you're not comfortable swearing on the Bible. Just don't do it. I don't see why there's a big fuss about it, either do it or don't.

In Canada You Can Swear On What Ever Holy Text You Believe In. If You Don't Have A Religion, I Think You Still Swear On The Bible.
