Until then...
Mirrors always revealed what I never really wanted to see;
reflective truths in scathing focus portrayed to pixelated hearts.
I'm re-adjusting the image jailed in this cracked, bathroom frame
just so you're not the only person that can see through me anymore.
Crop this picture to cut out every superimposed mistake I've made
because you know that I look so much better in black and right.
And I'm just trying to find whatever it is that you see in me,
but all I can discern are the insincere insecurities in my eyes
and the lipstick fabrications scrawled across my thighs.
It's no longer a wonder you told me beauty is sin deep.
Darling, you're talking to mirrors straining just to be heard.
Awkward silences swell into these claustrophobic proportions
and I'm crashing to my knees so we can both fit inside them.
Breaking skin in the same way that you're breaking hearts.
You know how the masochist in me likes to burn but, honey,
don't you know you're stretching this pyromaniac passion too far?
Excuse me for steaming surfaces with my tear-painted thoughts
but it's a reflex reaction when your subconscious isn't listening.
And, here I go, choosing sob-worn melodramatics to fill my whines.
You keep offering advice not affection to this deflated heart.
"Tune down your defences, sweetheart. You've already been hit.
Lying on puddled floors and damning that devil they dub Cupid."
Playing victim isn't so glamorous anymore when you're bleeding
mascara down prom dresses, straightening tiaras taut with trauma.
Love-shot eyes unfocussed. Shattered vinyl records on the floor.
These turbulent arguments are the soundtracks to our romance.
It's a mediocre consolation that our kind of destructive passion
would put Cupid out of business. Making paupers out of gods is art.
"Make some room, sugar. He can join us in the gutter for tonight." |
