Fashion Zombies! Jackass ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 1168 ![]() ![]() | Sorry if theres a topic for this... My friend who supposedly goes to the best school in Western Australia keeps ranting how much I'm going to have a bad life because I go to a public school. I don't think his even looked into a public school before and seen how many rich people went to them. I seriously don't think they're that much better. Suure they may have a bit better technology but my first high school had all that and more. I left 'cause of other reasons but thats a different story... What are your thoughts on this?[/b] |

So those people would have to go to a public school, or a catholic/christian school, (which aren't public, but aren't private either, as they do get funding from the government). And I know a lot of really smart people at my school, and at other schools. Well, basically its all the same syllabus being taught at all the schools, so it just depends on how smart you are, and how hard you work. Also, at private schools, the competition is much more intense, it would be harder for the students |

Incubus Jackass ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 1820 | I don't think it really doesn't matter if a school is public or private. The school I go to is public, and it has a bit of a repuation for letting all the students no other school would touch with a barge poll but... Our school got to the finals of the Form+Fusion design awards 5 years running. I've lost count of the amount of times we've won an award at the young scientists expedition. Our sports teams (boys and girls) are always winning turnaments or at least getting to the finals. And our exam results are usally always great. And none of the two private schools around here have ever ahieved all that. Not even close. |
American Nimrod Shoot Me, I'm A Newbie ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 21 | It does matter. You get to choose what you want to do.It's like being at home acept doing math and geography and shit like that. But you don't get to do that in Public School do you? No,they are completley incontrol of you.You should only go to a Private School if you know how to behave your little rotten damn minds.(got damn demons)Public School you can't talk while a test or you have to do it at exact time as everyone else.Private School you can do it 2 days later! And you don't get A- B- D- C-E- F-. |
Plug In Baby. Addict ![]() Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 11334 | American Nimrod: Yeah, at least you do here. You still get marked the same, you still have to do the test at the same time as everyone else. And in private schools, they're pretty strict, unulike public schools which are pretty slack. Of course you'll be taught better and be in an environment where there are smarter people, and richer people (in private schools), so I suppose you'll get work done, unlike in my school, and the public schools nearby, where people muck up the whole time, and don't learn a lot. And you'll already have connections with rich people, or high up people, so that will a plus when looking for a job. |
Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | Public School and Private Schools are both totally acceptable in my opinion. Just because you attend one does not make you better than someone else. Private school is nice. Smaller Class sizes, which can allow teachers to have more one on one time with students. Often Teahcers with Master Degrees can be employed more at private schools because they can afford to pay them, which is always a plus. Also, teachers with more experience can be employed. People like to think that you learn more in a private school, but that isnt true. In the US Every state has a curriculum based off of national learning requierments. Therefore, every school must cover those things, no exceptions. Private and Public. Public school may have larger class sizes, but they are still learning the same thing. In big cities, Public schools can often be semi- dangerous as well from lack of structure. In St.Louis which is a city I live... somewhat close to, public schools are extremely bad there. Almost no one attends them and I feel extremely sad for kids who do have to go there. Public Schools can be fine, Im not saying they are horrible, but the location of them can really effect their safety and the students ability to learn. |

wake the dead. This Board Is My Home ![]() Age: 37 Gender: Female Posts: 30440 | I honestly don't think it matters. Someone I knew was pulled from my public high school and placed in private for her final years so that she could get into university. She ended up going to the local college with people from my school. Point being; if you're a bright student, you're going to be bright in any sort of learning institution. And if you're dull or you refuse to learn...well. American Nimrod: Dear lord, I hope you don't go to a private school. |
anti-christ of suburbia Idiot ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 986 ![]() | you learn exactly the same stuff, the rich private schools just have better teachers etc, but its not necessarily a better environment. the school i go to is one of the best in the country, and its a public school. to tell you the truth i would rather go there than a private school, coz i wouldnt fit in. but maybe if you were raised in that environment you would. the only advantage i can see is that theyve got about 17 people in each class opposed to about 30, so you get mor personal attention from the teacher. |

Kurtni Admin ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 34289 ![]() ![]() | American Nimrod: ..... It would be nice if you could elaborate a bit... but I'll reply to your post anyways. I don't know which aspect of Bush's educational acts you're refering to, so I'll go over the one most people know of.(and if you're refering to another country leader my bad, but your location was LA so Im assuming you mean the united states) One of the Biggest things that most people know of is the "No Child Left behind" act, but not alot of people actually know what it is. What is did was reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which was not an act even proposed by Bush, it was enstated in... 1965 maybe, Im not too sure. Whatever year it was, Bush didnt pass it. It also had new componets proposed by Bush such as.. -Requireing standardized testing for grades 3-8. The point in this is to make note of which schools in particular are not meeting the requirements early on, so that they can be imporved and reconstucted ect, before the 12 years of school is up. The main focus of this testing is on Math and Reading. Another componet that I think is really good is the parents ability to remove students from failing schools that don't meet standards and place them in schools that do at no charge so that every child can get the education they need. The Act also focuses heavily on making sure every child can read at grade level by third grade. It increased government funding for reading programs. And it even has funding to allow teachers to get specialized training for. It also emphasizes Class Size reduction, helping students with limited English learn the language, so that they are able to meet the same standards as students fluent in English. In a post I made above, I said something about violence in Public schools, this act also allows students to trnasfer out of violent schools with bad histories and no signs of imporvment at no extra charge. This is a newer act, it was passed in 2001 I think, and right now reforms are being considered to help improve the act as well. ![]() |
Anji Basket Case ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 15914 ![]() | Private schools are way better than public ones. I've been to seven different ones, all over the world including in the United States, and private is definately much better. You don't get nothing from the extra money. The private school I go to now is great though. Cheap, and it's a border house thing. The school buys houses for some students, and they pay for most services but in a limit, so if we excced that limit, we pay the bills. So I live here with my friend and it's cool. Very nice neighbourhood, and not too far from the school. Nice markets. |
Dom Jackass ![]() Age: 35 Gender: Male Posts: 1691 | its bollocks, people at public schools (the ones you have to pay at) get As and Bs in their GCSE's, and i go to a state school and got the same grades, only i didnt play £10,000 a year for it. |

davey jones. Falling In Love With The Board ![]() Age: 32 Gender: Female Posts: 7018 ![]() ![]() | I've gone to public school my whole life. My parents can't afford private school. I don't think it matters what school you went to, just the grades and success you acheive in it. But of course, the more "upper class" schools may appeal to universities, which can have great impact on someone's future. |
Bleach Rotting On Here ![]() Age: 33 Gender: Female Posts: 47505 | The only real difference in private and public schools is that the classes in public shool are much larger, and its not the bestfor kids that need some attention from the teachers. and I also think there isn't as much harrasment/bullying between students. ![]() |
Maiku's Kind Ghost King For A Couple Of Days ![]() Age: - Gender: - Posts: 2102 ![]() | I went to Catholic school from Gr.K to 6th grade. And from 7th to the present I'm in Public school. In Catholic school I struggled to pass each grade becuse the work was to demanding for me and I couldn't get the extra help I needed for subjects I was/am weak in. In Public school I'm doing much better becuse the work is less demanding and I have the assintance I need. |
