i've heard about that one too. my friend from estonia told me that she has an H instead of a B. [finland-ish area?] |

I know there is an erroneous H in quite a few of my German music books, but I don't know the language so I'm not sure. |

 | December 30th, 2006 at 01:32pm Well, in Western music in India, its still do re mi fa so and stuff. But in Indian classical music and even contemporary, it's
sa re ga ma pa da ne sa.
Like, if you were in C major, instead of D, you would play C# and instead of A, its G#. |

Semitones, etc.
# just means one semitone higher, therefore c# is technically d. |

C# is technically Db...there's only no semitones between E and F and B and C. that's why i was confused... |

Exactly. But that's just in one key. This key is Mayamalagowla. In Bilahari, it's the same as western. Some keys exclude certain notes altogether. Like, on Mohana, there's no "la" or "ne". its just sa re ga pa da sa. so yeah. It's the world's first organized music system and the most complicated. There's a shitload of theory, too. |

 | December 31st, 2006 at 02:31pm It's not something to be learned in one's spare time. You have to practice it constantly and be learning it with like, sitar or harmonium or veena or learning Carnatic singing. And for that, you need a sruti box. Sruti being the tune or like, key I guess. I don't know how to put it in English.
But its also really cool that my name is Sruti... |
