On January 19th, 2007, Tim Armstrong announced that he and some of his good friends will be working on a small recording project and tour, made to benefit many of the poor sections of Indonesia. No songs or tour dates have been announced as of yet.

He decided to begin working on benefit recordings and concerts due to his recent travels to Jakarta and other sects in the country. After discovering that Indonesia is the fourth largest country in population, and that half of the country's citizens live on less than $2 a day. He states that he was captivated by the people and the culture of the country, and that he is attempting to do whatever he can to help raise awareness and help benefit the country's economic resources and funds.

So far, Tim Armstrong has recruited all current Rancid members (Lars Frederiksen, Matt Freeman, Brandon Steineckert,) as well as Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day, Pinhead Gunpowder,) Travis Barker (blink-182, +44,) and Vic Ruggiero (The Slackers.) Rumour speculates that other artists such as Rob Aston (Transplants,) Tre Cool (Green Day,) Craig Fairbaugh (+44,) and Davey Havok (AFI) will also contribute.

* Tim Armstrong - Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica
* Billie Joe Armstrong - Guitar, Vocals
* Lars Frederiksen - Guitar, Vocals
* Matt Freeman - Bass, Backing Vocals
* Vic Ruggiero - Keyboards, Backing Vocals
* Travis Barker - Drums
* Brandon Steineckert - Percussion

---

So there you have it, one of the possible reasons why Green Day's new album may not be out this year. This might be more Rancid news than Green Day, but apparently Billie's going to play a big role in the project, so I stuck it here.

(A quick note: Tim has worked with all of the aforementioned musicians before, except for Tre: he worked with Billie briefly in Rancid, Vic plays keyboards for Rancid, Travis, Craig, and Rob were in the Transplants, and Davey sings "Radio" when Rancid and AFI tour together.)

Rancid has talked about their new album coming this year, so I'm pretty sure that this is at least somewhat accurate. Although I'm not sure why Billie hasn't mentioned it yet...

Because Travis worked with Tim in the Transplants... and because he's arguably the most talented individual drummer of the 21st century.

sweet, if you don't mind I'm going to take your post word-for-word and post it in the news.

I'll credit you, but I'm not sure if Dujo will take that out or now.

Hell-Cat Records, Tim's label. Unfortunately, they don't keep older news, so I can't give you that link, sorry. Soon after, someone posted it word-for-word on Wikipedia (except they edited it into the third person). I've seen it on Hell-Cat before though, so I'm 99.9% sure it's accurate.

I'm really feeling pretty sure this is not true. There is no mention of this anywhere on the web except on Wikipedia.

And if it was on Hellcat it's not there now. You can browse old news just by entering the number of the article in your browser address bar, and there's nothing there.

Okay then the question is... where did the original news of this collaboration come from? GDA or the IC?

gda. I think so any way. but it was the wikipedia thing that was used as a reference as far as I can tell. maybe Tim did want to do this but for some reason it has been shelved as nothing can be found to back this up.

there has maybe been talk of doing this, agreement from those who have been named, but at the end of the day it will depend on those commited having the free time at the same time as it were.

this being dated january with nothing to back it up, I am sceptical at best. certainly I dont see anything happening any time soon with this.
