 | June 15th, 2007 at 06:51pm I've recently been reading the Lord of the Rings and I think that Dumbledore is like Gandalf. And Sauron is like Voldemort. I don't know maybe I'm too tired |

Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 17669 | June 15th, 2007 at 07:13pm I couldn't get on with LOTR. Too much description and it just seemed to drag on and on.
I did read the entire first book though, so I spose that's something. I just think it's a bit too much...I mean, I know HP is really long, but there's always something happening, and the description is never too detailed and stuff, cos then it gets boring. |

 | June 15th, 2007 at 07:36pm Well the point is that I think JK based the HP characters on the LOTR characters. |

| June 15th, 2007 at 10:11pm I think HP is loosly based off Star Wars. |

I don't think it's based on Star Wars, just that there's loads of similarities, and it's a bit like the formula for an epic saga. |

 | June 16th, 2007 at 06:49am Look, there is always a villain and a good guy who is ought to save the world. And a some form of a mentor-helper.
Harry & Dumbledore & Voldemort
Frodo & Gandalf & Sauron
Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie & Aslan & White Witch (Chronicles of Narnia)
Eragon & Brom & King Galbatorix (Eragon)
Its all very similar. |

Age: 35 Gender: Female Posts: 17669 | June 16th, 2007 at 07:13am Yeah, there's all these different formulas that I was studying in media but I threw it all out when I dropped out. Something about the main characters, and they had it as the Princess, the Hero, the Villain, the Helper, all stuff like that, because all good stories have them. |

I said that you have the basic idea, its on the author to make an interesting story line out if it. |

and instead of Gondor they had Krondor etc etc etc. It was still really good though.
All these sce-fi fantasy types are similar because they fit into the stereotypes of the genre
The genre just so happens to be my fav tbh
Was it Bored of the Rings? I haven't read it, but it was basically a parody of LOTR. |
